I’ve been reading about this Side Airbag safety feature, and actually I ended up being more curious about it. As I understand, this will not only affect the compatibility of Grab handles but also other accessories that may require some kind of strapping or permanent attaching hardware to the sport bar.

I will share some info I've found so far:

First, the manual for 2024 Wrangler: https://cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/servicemanuals/jeep/2024-wrangler.pdf

Page 254 gives some details about the “supplemental Side Air Bag Inflatable Curtains “SABICs”:

I’m wondering where exactly the “curtain” drops from (where exactly that side airbag deploys from).

I took a couple of pics from my 2024 Willys, and I marked 3 points.

First pic is from inside, and it shows points 1 & 2. Second pic is from outside, and it shows point 3. Those points are just references to me, but I’m not sure what exactly is the part that needs to be free of obstruction.

I even contacted MOPAR today via webchat, just curious about this, but the rep was totally clueless about the Side Airbags. She told me that she couldn’t open the manual for the specific VIN number I provided. Also she mentioned that her references were showing that Wrangler 2024 have side bags deployment from the seats only (she didn’t mention the “SABIC” or even the sport bar) and that if I wanted more information, I needed to contact my dealer where I purchased the vehicle.

Bottom line, I was interested in knowing those details because I found 3 types of Handles in Amazon that I would like to choose from, to add to my Willys. All 3 claim to be “AIRBAG safe” ( one of them does not mention that in Amazon listing, but I asked the seller). And I would like to be sure which one will work just fine with SABICs. (one of them is installed in the outer side of the bar with a couple of screws that go under the trim. the other one is installed on top of the bar. Finally the cheapest one hangs in the inside)

By the way, yes, I also saw the MOPAR original for 2024 specifically, but I also saw that video stating that it requires professional installation, which it discourages me from buying it.

I received my 2024 Mopar Grab Handles at the end of June. They attached directly under the sport bar. They def aren’t as strong as the previous year handles but they are enough for my 175 lbs when getting into the Jeep.

Thanks for posting those pics HAPPY_JCG
Then this clarifies what the video from TikTok was stating about requiring professional installation. Probably that video was meant for the former version of the handle in a 2024 Wrangler.

I can see MOPAR designed a different way to attach it to the sport bar. And yes, that way looks less stronger than the former one, but I agree that could be enough for someone less than 180lbs.

@anvilnc that TikTok video was using the grab handles for the 2018-2023 model JL and most likely mentioned “professional installation” being needed to avoid a lawsuit. What some people will do for clicks.

You aren't missing anything. The toolkit doesn't have a tool for the trim screws. Just the top and door bolts and windshield wiper nuts.

It is a Torx bit, but I can't remember off the top of my head what size. T-25, maybe.

Note that unlike the front handles, the Mopar directions for the rear handles show the long sides of the mounting brackets should face inward. That makes the logo face upward for both front and rear handles.

To stop the handle from bouncing on the glass, I tuck it up and forward. There is enough clearence and it's snug enough to hold it in position. It also will not interfere with the airbag if deployed.
