GMRS Portable Recommendations...

The Midland GTX1000 are pretty much the industry leader in portable GMRS radios, as well as mobile units. I've been using a set of these for over 8 years and they have been flawless. I'm adding 15w mobile to my Rubi since most major clubs and events are moving away from CB to GMRS.

What is the battery life like?

We've used ours all day on one charge. The batteries wear out over time but are easily replaced on Amazon. Note that you can also use AA batteries in them, so if you're worried about battery life on the rechargeable ones, you can carry extra AA's.

Typical trail ride for me is 9am to 5pm, radio still shows full charge at end of ride.

New price goes in effect this month for GMRS licenses. Worth the wait as the fee drops in half to $35. Good for 10 years for anyone in your family. I believe the new date is April 19th. Just apply on the FCC website.
