FUBAR'ed my soft top. Looking for a part

Best I could tell was I only bent one other bracket that I straightened back in a bench vice so I'm hoping I only need the one part otherwise will need to order the rails too. Did you get everything fixed yet?

Well, I ordered an entire new top,windows, everything. Cost me $1970 at dealer, with my 15% off Mopar coupon. Got it put on, and all is good.

I thought at first I just bent a bracket. But when I started looking, I cracked both rails where they attach to frame, bent the brackets, popped off one of the little wheel gizmos, and bent some of the frame. Instead of piecemealing everything, I just bought a new kit. At least now I have new windows that aren't scratched yet.

Note to all noobs!

Besides the locking levers on each hinge, there is a release on the inside rear of the top. Learn from my $150 mistake and pull that release before dropping the top down all the way. that bar bends VERY easily.

I haven't put mine on yet , any chance you can snap a picture of the release so some other soul wont make the same miscue??

You can't miss it. It's a handleslightly to the driver's side of the vehicle under the soft top.

Now the dealer is saying the part won't be available until next week. So I pulled out my finest redneck engineering skills and reinforced the bar so I could keep my top up.

I took some PVC with 3/4" inside diameter and split it in half. I notched the PVC where the metal had folded and made a splint. The entire thing is wrapped in Gorilla Tape for good measure. I figure that'll hold me over until they finally get the part to me.

On the 2 door they put the hinges on the out side of the roll bar. Makes it impossible to drop the rails.

Just a followup.

I got the part last week and installed it. Taking the offending pole off is a challenge so you'll pretty much find yourself replacing the whole unit. I do have a couple pieces of advice.

1. Do not unscrew the aft bar from the soft top. It's a PITA to reinstall. Instead, use the appropriate star key and remove the mounting screw for that arm. Then slide it out from the hinge. It goes back in rather easily.

2. The locking cable, that runs to the hinge, has a plastic clasp that holds it in place on the body of the hinge. You NEED that plastic clasp INTACT or the release mechanism won't work. The best way, that I've found, to free the clasp, without damaging it, is to fully disassemble the hinge and release it from inside the body. Be aware that the hinge body has a spring in it. That spring will jump out upon disassembly, but you won't need the hinge again anyways.

Hey Guys and Gals,

I screwed up my new soft top and ruined the bar that is attached to it. I'm looking for a replacement part but I can't find soft top diagrams with part numbers anywhere. Can anyone help me find the part number for this so I can get it fixed? Many thanks in advance.

I was installing my soft top today, and this happened to me. . I wonder if it is under warranty, otherwise I will need to get the replacement part also. Thanks for the tips.

As a follow up, I am still waiting to hear if it is under warranty. However, I found some parts from Lowes (see below) that seem to fix it. I need to be careful, but it works for occasional usage.

I had this happen to me on the Passenger side as well. Unfortunately, the part shows up as discontinued. Have tried several dealers and other shops online with the same result. Have had an order in at Quadratec in for 2 weeks or so and they show it under pre-order shipping on the 30th.

Hopefully, its back into production now.

Hey I was wondering if when you replaced the hinge and bar did you take the whole top off? Also is there a way just to take the bar because it looks simple but clearly something other than the screw prevents the bar from separating from the hinge.

I bought mine online from a dealer in Florida (Thunder Chrysler) for about $130. Arrived in the mail and was pretty easy to install.

Yep that was definitely the hardest part I called my local dealership and they hooked me up but he said that he really had to look to find it. Good luck!
