I took my JLR to the dealership for the first "free" oil change several months ago. I couldn't make time to get there this time so I did it myself. However, the oil drain plug was so tight I had to use a breaker bar to loosen it. Lesson learned.

I tightened the plug to 20ftlbs when done. Should I be concerned it won't hold now? Experience says no but I'm only one man, opinions?

Once I took my 2007 JK to a dealership for an oil change, they stripped the plug, my guess was the tech was tightening instead of trying to loosen it.

Short story they tried to sell me on a $1,200 oil pan replacement, $1,200 because they were giving me a discount.

The next day I went to my mechanic and it took it off with a vice grip and changed the oil, and I went on my trip across the Midwest, I went to the dealership because my mechanic couldn't do the oil change that day.

The service advisor also said that I haven't done an oil change for over a year, because their fancy computer shows such, I told him I don't bring it to the dealership because their oil change requires an oil pan replacement, it's always something with these clowns.

You'll want to monitor for oil leaks, between now and when you sell the vehicle, or the pan is replaced.
