Has anyone tried to retrofit one of Tuffy’s older model metal replacement center consoles into a JL? I’ve just ordered a 2021 manual 3.6 Ragtop. I‘ve alway’s replaced or added the consoles in my previous CJ and newer Jeeps with metal Tuffy metal center consoles for storing my wife’s purse while shopping or concealed carry firearm when not allowed on premises. I would like the similar convenience with the new JL. Tuffy no longer makes such a nice big box for up front safe storage.

There's a remarkable amount of wiring and ducting going through and under the JL's center console. I doubt a complete replacement is in the works simply because of the difficulty of a fully-integrated solution.

They do offer a lockbox, but there was a change to the design of the center console midway through the 2020 model year; make sure you're getting the right version.

There's also a nicely concealed storage compartment under the load floor in the rear, inaccessible with the swing gate locked. Big enough for a laptop, but it's right on top of the muffler, so don't leave ice cream in there.

Yeah the Tuffy insert is a great option, but you’re certainly not fitting a purse in there! If you ordered the trail cam option, the center console will be slightly smaller and you would need to contact Tuffy for a couple of updated parts. Otherwise the insert fits fine as is.

The underfloor storage in the back is a great option. But if you need even more space you could drop some cash on something like a Diabolical Slipstream.

I have both of the above and love them. I run doorless/topless a ton in the summer, so it’s great having so much secure storage.
