Hi everyone. Thanks in advance for your insight, if you choose to help out.

I am looking for the following in the Northeast:
2018-2020 model year.
4-Doors
Miles < 20k
Power windows/doors
Manual transmission (I miss my high school college days and want my kids to learn on a manual)
I hope to put aftermarket leather covers on the factory-installed seats

Here is where I am hoping for help:
1. I would like to have an limited-slip differential to do occasional off-roading with the kids. - Can an after-market anti-slip differential be installed after the fact and if so, what should I expect to be the costs and how might it differ from the factory-installed option?

2. I would like the technology package, but also, not essential. - If I do not get the upgraded technology package, what would I forego in terms of capability with the stock or a comparable after-market radio?

3. It would be great if it has a cold weather package, but it is not a deal-breaker. - What is the general opinion on the cold weather package being in the Northeast?

Because I am looking in the used market to keep the costs down (preferably around $30k or under), I can't find too many examples out there with exactly what I am looking for.

And over-arching questions are:
What tips do you have for purchasing a used Jeep?
Are there any other things that should be considered for a 2nd car used primarily just for fun?

Again, thanks in advance for your help!

1. The limited slip differential from the factory is a great value. It adds the Dana 44 rear axle and more off-road worthy tires. But aftermarket options are always out there. I can’t speak to the differences and prices of those because I’m not in the market but there’s something for everyone in the jeep aftermarket.

2. There are different tech-related packages, all of which are completely unnecessary in my opinion. One thing I do admire though is the Alpine sound system. It blows the stock unit out of the water and I kind of wish I had gotten it.

3. People seem to love it. I get by just fine without it when it’s in the 20-30 degree range though because the jeep heats up quickly.

General tips- make sure there’s no frame rust (shouldn’t be an issue with 2018-2020 jeeps). Try to find as close to stock as possible. Inspect the undercarriage for signs of off-roading like scrapes on the differential cover and skid plates.

Have fun with your search and I hope it goes well!

1) You wouldn't want to pay for a limited slip differential after the fact. The way to go would be adding a locker and yeah that kind of job is done all the time.
2) Paying for a fancy infotainment system is dumb in my humble opinion. Your phone does, and will always do, a better job at those kinds of things.

Gonna have to disagree with you there sure you don't have to get the full 8.4 but I feel like the stock 5" sucks and is not as fast also it has cellphone pairing issues. Plus I feel moving up to the 7" gives the interior a modern look and getting all the temps and off-road goodies is fun to look at. Unsure if the 5" gives you that also the indash screen looks amazing for a jeep. Plus your rear camera looks way more clear and cleaner better viewing angles it's the little things. But try them both out it's you're the decision.

I would use Auto Trader to find the Jeep your looking for. That's how I found my used 2019 Sahara with 7,500 miles. I had a number of options I wanted including the Sky One Touch. I was able to find exactly what I wanted for a great price.

@burnsie15 Cold Weather Package was on my must have list, and I live in Georgia!!
I've actually been thinking about getting something done in terms of heated seats in the back for my kids. My wife's Armada has heated front and rear seats, so why shouldn't my Jeep?
As for the heated steering wheel, I love them, first had one on a BMW a few years ago, and each of my subsequent Mercedes have failed to deliver in that area, but my Jeep has one!

The technology package is important in my opinion because of Apple Car play. You can currently use it for maps and if you listen to podcasts or audio books. The real value is that in that it future proofs your car. Maybe your garage door will be on your phone and who knows what else. That will all still work in a few years on your old car as you upgrade your phone.

I had heated seats on my last car and never used it, If anything in that package is useful it's remote start, and that's only because I have a baby,

You should be able to get 20% off MSRP on 2019s. Here is one near you their opening offer is 16% iff MSRP. You could probably get 23% off.

Thanks. I checked in with them. They have some great deals, but nothing right now that checks all of the boxes I'm looking for.

Thank you for pointing this one out! I was looking at this exact Jeep, as a good deal. Unfortunately, it does not have the anti-slip differential, which is one thing I was hoping for. I do appreciate the comments!

You’re looking for a manual transmission so the cold weather package is just going to consist of heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. I know other people love it but I find it over rated. To me the Jeep is warm enough in 5 minutes to take your jacket off if you choose. Also, (this is just me now) the worst part of winter isn’t that it’s cold. It’s when the wind blows and it’s cold so once I’m in my car I’m fine waiting for the heater to bring me up to my 70 degree setting.
