I've noticed for a while now a creaking noise from the rear of my Jeep when it's parked and gets wiggled, meaning stepping in or out primarily. I presumed it was a spring on the rear suspension or something and I can't hear it while moving.

I've realized now that the culprit is the parking brake. If I actuate the parking brake while holding the release button (so there's no ratcheting noise) I can hear a pretty loud stretchy/creaky noise. If I lie under the Jeep and wiggle it the sound is pretty clearly coming from the brake rotor area. Acuating the parking brake in the cabin has a loud and nearby sound, so I'm guessing it's the cable itself mostly.

If I sit on the foot brake and shake the Jeep I usually hear nothing or just the tiniest, faintest noise from the rear. It's dead silent if I shake it with no brakes engaged. I don't notice the parking brake sticking or performing abnormally at all. It holds the Jeep even on a decent incline.

Do you guys think this is anything to worry about? I've been planning on getting it looked at next time I get some service done, probably oil change in a couple months unless the clutch recall becomes available before then.

Last I heard on recall being available was September, but who knows if it's accurate. As far as the parking brake, service schedule recommends that it be adjusted every 2 years or 20k miles. So if you're past that it wouldn't be a bad idea to get it looked at. Otherwise, parking brakes do creak at times, usually if you are parking on an incline and don't have quite enough pressure on it.

I thought the same but it turned out to be the sway bar link bushings and track bar bushings.
