About a month ago I started cold plunging. I ruptured my pec tendon about 3 months ago and figured it couldn’t hurt.

Turns out sitting in 35 degree water makes me “feel” better for most of the day. I’ve done a bunch of research( watched countless YouTube videos and podcasts) so I’m familiar with its effects.

I bought a cheap set up from Amazon to test it out. Basically a material drum that holds about 90 gallons of water. No chiller or pump. Im in NY so with the weather hovering between 30-40 degrees the water temp is perfect. I just have to clean it out after it rains or after 2 weeks. Since the last week of Arctic temps it’s frozen solid.

I’m curious to see other set ups if there are any fellow cold plungers out there.

How old are you? Do you have any arthritis? Are you on any cardiac meds? Anti-epileptics? Perspective helps. Cold plunge for some, certainly never for many. I doubt there are many, if any, YouTube testimonies for when it fails. IMHO

I’ve had my share of soft tissue injuries but otherwise grateful to be in very good health for 45. I’m curious what you mean about it failing?

I don’t think it’s something that’s going to cure my ailments, more of a mental and physical challenge with some health benefits.

I found as I am getting older doing things that make me uncomfortable and extremely challenging have immeasurable benefits. Mainly, allow me to deal with stress in a much more positive way.

You might find this interesting,

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I don't do it, but understand it. Seems the effects are limited, but certainly there. From what I've researched myself, it seems the benefits diminish over time, but maybe a break (30 days on, 30 off) would restart the benefits again?

You definitely adapt pretty quickly to tolerating the cold. Moderation is a sound strategy. At this rate if I don’t learn some I’m going to run out of body parts to break.

Give it a try my set up cost $75 on Amazon. You could buy an inexpensive ice machine and have a decent set up for less than $300 to start.

most people can benefit from just turning their shower water at the end of their show to the coldest setting for 60-120 seconds. the benefits are actually really good. The mental alone has helped

A new spa is under construction in our city and the sign says they will have cold plunging.

I had heard of Wim Hof a few years ago and thought he was nuts. As time went on cold plunging took off on social media I started learning about the benefits so I figured I would give it a shot. Now I’m seeing it all over as well.

I’ve tried it and I thinks it’s actually more difficult than just sitting in cold water. Something about the randomness of the water. Once I’m in the cold water I just suffer through it. Cold showers are rough.
