Cb Installation Part 2 with the sky touch top.

Ok, Geeze this install was pretty brutal considering the Sky touch top. You really have no room up here, but I figured out a great way to accomplish this task. Really nothing to mount to and the floor was out of the question. So I bought this piece of steel in Homedepot. To make this work I had to have like an offset bend. Once I had the steel offset bend into shape I had to make it stronger and make it hold its shape. So a cold steel chisel a couple of cinderblocks and a 5 pound sledgehammer. I pounded 3 ribs all the way down the length of the steel to strengthen it. That worked like a charm. I painted to protect the steel and then covered it so I wouldn't bang my head into the mount getting in and out of the jeep. There is at least an inch of clearance between the sky top and the cb mount. There is absolutely no interference while the top opens or closes.

I installed with 2 self tapping screws and proceeded to mount the cb bracket and then the radio. I also mounted the cb in such a way that I can now swivel it in either direction to aide in viewing either for the driver and or passenger..

I have to say for the 20 bucks I spent on this steel, this came out great. The steel flexes just a enough so when you hit a bump the cb isn't taking all the shock.

Yes your absolutely right! Not sure if they fit on the sky one touch top but whatever, being that I'm a retired engineer trying to keep busy I wanted to see if I could come up with something that would work. I also didn't want a bar running across the entire opening when the top is opened, it kind of defeats the purpose of having an open top, in the process I saved 149 bucks not buying a CB bar for 169.00.. lol.
