Black Bear CO July 4th weekend

2019 had similar snow pack as this year, maybe not even as much. Black Bear did not open until mid/late August. Imogene late July.

In some cases, it takes the public to try, then report on whether a pass is open or not. You can spend hours on a trail only to find a very short section (eg a 100 yards) at the top still snow covered. That happened to us on Stony Pass one year, coming in from the east, and a detour to Kite Lake. Too dangerous to try and cross at the pass, very slick on a steep ledge. Had to turn around. But still a good day!

Just know they measure snow by feet not inches. I would be surprised if it was open. Most of the wheeling is not open during that time.

With Labor day too far out we will be taking an ad-hoc Thu-Tue weekend to go there once we confirm Black Bear Pass is open. #sigh

Yeah I've been hearing that it probably won't be open so I'll stay in Moab another few days maybe do a camping night on White Rim

Yeah I've been driving off pavement in Jeeps (Rentals) since 2017 in AZ, NV, & UT this will be my first trip to Colorado and I'll be driving my own Jeep

Question about this - I don’t want to mod up my Jeep and that obviously limits the trails I can run. Do you enjoy renting?

I've had nothing but good things to say about Barlow Jeeps and I really enjoyed renting, but prices have gone up, and they are now limiting the trails you can take their Jeeps on, so I just bought myself a Rubicon and that's that

Better go to Recreation.gov and get your reservation to do White Rim. I have not been able to get a reservation the last two times I was in Moab. They fill up quick and you might already be to late.
