Just thinking the old MB & CJ line up from 2A's up to CJ7 never had any. Just curious.

When the JT Gladiator came out, I read that the grill slots were wider and the mesh was larger to allow for better cooling and the increased towing capacity with the same radiator.

Keep in mind that all those broken or chipped windshields mean the same thing is hitting the front on the grill. Without the mesh, the radiator or condenser is exposed.

Yeah. I hear you. Now that you mention this I had a hole in my plastic radiator on my Dodge pickup from mostly a rock.

The Jeeps back in the day I guess never really saw the freeways like today Jeeps do.

It would be great if there was an option with no slats but enough mesh protection for the radiator, more airflow is always nice. I could care less for the civilian 7 slot image.

If I had the $ to just build a Off Road only rig it would not have any mess.
Love to see one if anyone is running without.

“Back in the day” grill screens were a popular Jeep accessory; here’s a photo of my ol’ CJ5 wearing one. This one just clipped onto the grill slats, and didn’t seem to have any adverse effect on cooling for the Buick 340 V8 lurking under the hood.
