I looked at the original version with a bit of interest and this new one seems to operate similarly. According to the information on the page this connects to your phone and uses Bluetooth to then connect to the radio. I don't see the advantage of using this over the other available methods to connect your phone to the radio. Bluetooth is not the best way to listen to your media, it ends up losing quite a bit of fidelity, and doesn't play at the same volume as direct media, radio/satellite/USB. And while this gives you some unique specific voice functions with the Alexa app that may be useful to some, I am perfectly satisfied with the standard Android Auto experience. Maybe one of you with some hands on experience can elucidate on my opinion being incorrect.

Like other testers, Iā€˜ve had the original Echo Auto since introduction and my feelings are neutral on it. It is handy for voice commands and asking trivia questions but so is Siri.

Like the first version, you can use an auxiliary 3.5 mm cable (included) to connect to your radio for lossless audio interaction.

The most significant hardware difference is the 2nd generation module doesn’t need to be mounted on the dash where it can hear you. Jeep’s are not known to be the quietest ride nor are their owners the most patient. Yelling ā€Alexa, play some Bob Segerā€ and watching the deaf/confused Echo Auto do nothing is what drives us to climb bigger rocks.

Version 2 can be mounted in your center console, plugged into USB and the small microphone located at a spot convenient to you AND your passengers.

At the introductory price of $60, I think Amazon has exceeded the price point for the convenience it offers but that’s just my opinion. The convenience to interact with your smart home is invaluable but the Echo Auto isn’t the only solution out there.

As for the 2nd Generation Echo Auto.... well, if you have Alexa at home you will really appreciate the Echo Auto..

There are a few new adds with the 2nd Generation Echo Auto.

--> I got a kick out of this, today..... I stopped at a Mobil Gas Station and when I drove up to the pump, I said out loud "Alexa pay for gas".. Alexa then says what pump # are you at... I told her the pump # and got out of the JL and started pumping gas. No charge card swiping, etc.. The cost of the gas was automatically charged to my default payment method at Amazon.

Right now you can buy the current version of the Amazon Echo Auto for $14.99! Crazy cheap and well worth the $.

Anyway, if you are into Techy stuff.... if you have an Alexa in your house... or multiple Alexa's in your house, having an Alexa Echo Auto in your JL is a hoot.

Install in the JL/JT is so easy. IF you play Amazon music, or use Alexa to control devices in you home you will truly appreciate the Echo Auto.

From my JL, I can play Amazon music, check temps in my house, adjust thermostat, turn lights on and off, find out if my Amazon orders are out for delivery, turn security camera's, on and off, message, order stuff and lots more...

$14.99 here:

Yes, I also have/use Google in my JL..

The '24 and later have Alexa equipped and it works very well. I seem to discover another use for it weekly. I'm going to pick up one of these for my wife's Tahoe. Thanks for posting!

@YGBSM392

Yes, I knew about Alexa and the 24 and newer models.

I am a long time tester (for Amazon) in regard to the Amazon Echo and Echo Auto.

Been testing for Amazon in this regard, since mid year 2014.

I was probably one of the first 50 people that received a pre-sales Echo Auto 1st generation in 2018 to test/eval. I've got frigggin Alexa's everywhere...

Indeed having Alexa in the house.... and in the vehicle is a pleasure..

Only $14.99 for the 2nd Generation Echo Auto right now is crazy cheap.
