Just received notice that the engine may be contaminated with sand from the casting process. Sand from the casting process can contaminate internal engine components leading to catastrophic engine failure, which can result in a vehicle fire or inspected and unrecoverable loss of drive power.

This on top of the battery recall is getting out of hand.

And then they say "oh yeah, and a remedy is not currently available, but we'll let you know when one is"!?!?!?

That's CRAZY!

I reached out to the dealership because I had an appointment on Tuesday to review the battery but apparently that was a mistake. Discussed trading it in and they encouraged me not to (it's a lease) because of the value is so upside down that I basically would be screwing myself. Honesty at least.

Does this only apply to 2.0L engines in the 4xe power train?

Yes they really did a rush jobs on these. Glad I "save" money on my hybrid I can't plug in. And not plugging it in my 4xe Willy's, I get worse gas miles than my V6 Willy's.

Sadly I ended up in one because I wrecked my V6 pre2020 and post COVID pricing on the jeeps was crazy. Rebates put the 4xe in pre pandemic pricing. Regrets.

I’m going to call BS on the “casting sand” excuse here given the tolerances of these engines. If any foreign debris (sand or otherwise) was in the engine rotating assemblies it would fail quickly. Foreign material in fluid passages after assembly would get flushed and find a home in low spots of the coolant / oiling systems. I would expect to see more failed turbos or engines if debris were in them.

The Mopar website still shows my 2024 4xe with only the 68c recall.

Mine was built in August 2024. When was yours built?

I'm inclined to think the same here. If there was some type of casting issue possible clogging up a fluid passage or damaging the turbo bearings themselves they would have failed pretty early into their service life. We don't see 2.0L turbo failures that often, and when we do it's usually a wastegate issue.

I guess we will see what the fix is. If it's to replace all the turbos I'm going to have a good ol' laugh.

I had a wrangler Sahara about 15 years ago that had this issue. It would blow hot air from one side of the vents and cold air from the other side. They determined it was sand in the block. They sent it to an outside vendor who flushed the whole system and found tons of sand. I can't believe that 15 years later they still have this issue.
