Would a 392 with 35's and 4.10's be a good choice, I would like to keep the 4.10 transfer ruby case and not use a 272 as I understand that the 272 is an auto 4x4 case? This is with the 8 sp auto trans. Some say 4.56 but wouldn't the fuel mpg be different by a little? Not really concerned about the mpg just curious . My current stock jlr with the 3.6, auto and 4.10's in my opinion is great , but I miss my old v8 veh 's.

You talking about the transfer case or the Axles? 4.0:1 is the Rubicon transfer case. 4.10, 4.56 is the axle gearing.

The 392 transfer case is mated perfectly because how the torque curve is vs the smaller, less powerful engines needing more gearing to make up for their lack of power. A 4.0:1 transfer case in a 392 would be fine with 42" tires and some different axle gears that would make sense.

You won't miss the 4.0 Low range in the transfer case. I had the same thoughts before doing an LS swap a few years ago. With all the added torque I didn't even notice the 2.73 T/C while rarely in first or second gear. Besides the lower numerical gear, the stronger they are.

Will you be doing the swap yourself?

If not, makes more sense to sell your current JL and pick up a 392 in the 2nd hand market.
