I have a brand new Odyssey group 65 battery (Odyssey 65-PC1750T) and it is a beast. I bought it for my Grand Cherokee, but I thought I might like it better in the 392 - and then swap the 392's battery into the Grand Cherokee. I haven't bothered to take the felt off of the battery in the 392, so I don't know what size it is. If this one will fit, that would be great. It says "universal fit" but we all know what that means...

Thanks for that! I was being lazy and didn't want to pull all the felt off of the battery yesterday :) I'll check it out today. I think that big-ass Odyssey battery might fit, and that would be great. Those things are indestructible, and with the amount of off-roading this thing gets, I want to make sure the battery is rock solid.

On the note of the other Jeeps (like eTorque) having an extra battery - where do they put it? I'd really like to have an aux battery for backup (and things like a light-bar, inverter, and winch). I can't for the life of me figure out where they would mount an extra battery - there's just no room anywhere.

Keep an eye out for Genesis off road to release a dual battery setup for the 392.

Well, read the label today and it is useless. It gives the CCA information, but the whole thing is written in Italian and I can't decipher what the battery size is supposed to be. I'm hoping I can squeeze that big Odyssey in there, but I don't want to go through the hassle if it won't fit.

I went to a bunch of battery shops, entered the Jeep information, and they all come back with zero compatible batteries. Did Jeep choose some bizarre battery for us?

Anyhow, no big emergency because the battery is still new - but I would like to use the better Odyssey battery if I could.

Your odyssey battery is:

11.8" Long
7.2" Wide
7.5" High (including terminals)

H7 AGM (94R):
12.37" Long
6.87" Wide
7.5" Tall

Go do a test fit it's likely to fit.

If you have the H6 or group 48 battery size, just remove the tabs in the battery box and a larger battery like an H7 or the Odyssey will fit

There is no bizarre battery size, its H7 or H6 also known as group 48 or 94R. Group 94R is a very common battery size used in jeeps for a long time.

Thanks for that, Tyler! I'm going to measure the existing battery and compare to the Odyssey just to check before I pull things apart. It "looks" like it will fit, but since the battery doesn't have any group size or part number on it (at least not that I can find since it's all in Italian and it's definitely not a Mopar part) it's confusing.

I was looking under the battery tray, and I think I see what is a smaller tray for the ESS battery. If that's the case, then I'm going to get one of those ESS batteries and wire it into the system as a backup or accessory battery. Those batteries don't hold much juice, but it might be a nice to have. I'm of the mindset that you can never have enough battery when you're in a place where a jump start just isn't possible.

I wouldn't go through the hassle of putting a small ESS battery in your vehicle.....

Their capacity is small and pretty much useless.

So 12ah, my 12v Fridge/Freezer combo takes about 5 amps while running and although it doesn't run continuously that battery would be dead within 4 or so hours. The odyssey battery you have is designed to be deeply drawn down and recharged, it has a 65ah capacity what kind of things are you wanting to run, if you are looking for an extended run solution then a dual battery kit would be the way to go instead of a smaller secondary battery.

I was "kind of" thinking about doing a "ESS size" battery, but a lithium version. They're light, they have a ton of energy storage for their size, and some have an "11 year warranty" for whatever that means... My biggest complaint about the lithium batteries is that they catch on fire. I had a lithium battery on a charger for my drill go up in flames not long ago, and now I don't trust them.

But, if I can find something that puts out an almost equal amount of amp-hours as a regular battery, and the tray is already there, then my major issue is going to be figuring out how to charge it properly. For my other car, Doug Shelby Engineering does a lithium battery that is as powerful as what's needed to start a 8.4L Viper, but it's only about 12 pounds.

I've done stupid things in the past like going camping, running an inverter to power my laptop and other crap, and then having my main battery die in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere. I always carry a jump starter with me, but it would be nice to have something that I can just have tucked away and use for aux power without draining my battery. I've got enough crap to haul around with me, and while I'll probably always keep a jump starter, the less crap in the passenger compartment, the better.

Again, I'm of the mindset that you can never have enough battery power....

Any ideas on the date this should be available?
