So my 2018 JLUR's 240 amp alternator (56029803AA) decided to go poof when I was 2hrs from any paved roads. Fortunately, I have a house battery on my overland setup which I'm able to parallel connect with the jeep's battery which was enough to get me back to the nearest town and with a quick recharge, to the nearest garage.

After some more testing, I made sure it was the alternator, ordered a new one and got it installed. I paid the core charge to keep the old one and I'll have it checked and rebuilt to see what caused the issue. I'm pissed because this alternator only has 85,000kms which is not even close to the normal lifespan of an alternator.

Since I'm sure the question will come up, I use a DC to DC charger for the house battery and everything on my overland setup is powered by the house battery which is effectively isolated from the jeep's electrical system by the charger. On the jeep side, I only have a CB, winch and offroad lights which I rarely use and were off the whole trip.

Did you check the main distribution cable off the ALT.........I remember someone on this forum had an worn or bare spot on this cable that caused issues....... Just over 50Kmi seems premature.

The house battery that can be connected in parallel with the Jeep's battery system........Is this switched? or always connected?

I did check the length that was accessible but not beyond when it dips next to the main battery.

But nonetheless, there was no voltage (beside battery voltage) coming out of the alternator's output and swapping in the new alternator fixed it so I'm pretty sure it is not the cable.

Brought it to a repair shop and they said it's the clutch in the pulley that failed. Asked them if it is something that could've been prevented and he said no, it happens.

UPDATE: Pulley is unavailable, FCA doesn't sell it separately and there is no third party yet. Main issue being that the alternator is mounted facing backwards so the threads on the pulley are left handed.
