2024 Wrangler 4xe telematics module

If anyone has to have a telematics module (TBM) removed/replaced from a 2024, can I get you to ship the old one to me? (I'll pay for shipping.

From reading the various forums, it seems the earlier years had the cell transmitter in the dash head end but 2024s have moved it into the TBM. I'd like to figure out a minimally intrusive way to disable the transmitter (just a privacy and controlling one's own data issue), but those things are $2k from mopar and I'd rather not experiment on the only one I have since it's in my Jeep.

You're going to have to find one from a totaled 2024 to get what you want.

When you said $2k for one I had to check the pricing. $1055 MSRP which is INSANE considering these things fail ALL THE TIME. I thought it cost like $250, boy was I wrong.

Well, your price is better than what I found web searching; at https://www.moparoempartsdirect.com/oem-parts/mopar-telematics-module-68644305aa it's listed at $1,949.25, with an MSRP of $2,825.00.

Given how little it does (from a computing power perspective) it likely only has $100 retail worth of machine in there; the price has to be mostly made up to keep people from getting test units to hack on.

I have no idea how one finds a totaled car (or parts from one) in California; back to web searching.

I don't have any experience with this myself, but I remember reading a comment in another thread on this forum that mentioned calling your local LKQ location. IIRC they're a nationwide company that deals in salvaged vehicles & parts, so they should have no trouble finding the part you need and shipping it nearby.

Similiar option is car-part.com, it's a used part interchange search and will let you search recyclers nationwide.

There's a buttload depending on which sales codes your jeep should have.

Surprisingly that 305AA has a giant warning saying not for sale. In fact, only the 304AA doesn't have this restriction. The other 3 types all have this listed. Not sure if this helps you at all sadly

That surprised me too.

I assume the variety and various restrictions on sales has to do with the intended markets for each and federal restrictions on sending computer tech (especially with cryptography in it) to countries where the NSA would like that tech not to go. This is a longstanding headache in the computer world, and now that cars are mostly computers with wheels I should have expected to see it show up here too.
