RETIRED!
I bought a used JL and it has the quadratec door sill guards. I've also noticed a gap between the door seal and the sill guards. In fact, if I pressure wash the outside of the Jeep, I get water intrusion through this gap.

My instinct is to use a heat gun and remove them. I want to see if that's what others have done removing sill guards. I know this thread is almost a year old but I do have a question.
I had the Quadratec covers installed for maybe a day before I noticed the gap. I just started lifting on the sill guard and they peeled off fairly easily and then tossed them directly into the trash barrel.

I wanted to put some sort of protection on the sills. I had a partial roll of XPEL Black Universal Bed Rail Guard (17' x 4") Paint Protection Film left over from covering the sill plates on my 22 Ranger.

2025 Door Sill Guard Questions - After purchasing a set of (not yet installed) rubberized door sill guards, I got advanced feedback from a long time family Jeep dealership tech - that some sill guards can actually cause water leaks (unable to provide specific makers) But, the notion is that some of the sill guards (particularly when it's very cold and rubber parts very stiff) can impact the door seals, in such a way that they can damage them, to the point that water leaks result. Stated that he'd had to remove problematic sill guards when chasing/fixing customer water leaks. So I wonder, am I better off simply installing some thin, clear plastic protective film vice thicker rubber door seals? Was actually considering using thin self adhesive clear laminating sheets. Thoughts? (else the body color door sills get all scratched and chipped up from Jeep life, ya?) Regards and thanks to the Jeep hive, Bob W, Bristol, RI US

If I had to do it all over, I would go the PPF route instead of the guard, and I would also cover the outside a bit, sometimes my boot hit the outside by the door and mark it, the mark buffs out, but does scratch somewhat.

I once read the Mopar sill guards don't cause leaks. The after market that also cover the top of the door sills do.YMMV

I have the Mopar sill guards that are just ok. Are people with side steps actually stepping on the sill when they get in and out? Being average height I step on the slider and into the Jeep. Even with a lift, my wife, who is short, doesn’t step on the sill. Looking back I probably wouldn’t get them again.

Hey! After looking into door sill guards, I've also come across many stating this issue always. What did you end up doing?
I installed these a couple weeks ago. After spending close to $1000 accessorizing I couldn’t justify the additional cost for the mopar guards. You have push down fairly hard in order to get the tape to fully adhere. So far no issues.
I realize my 1k is not close to what some of you spend on your rigs ??, I haven’t even gotten into any real mods.

Hey!

I'm looking into buying these as well, so thanks for showing up close pictures. They look better than I thought. I also wanted to ask if you were aware of people warning about aftermarket door sill guards potentially prohibiting the doors from closing properly and thus increasing the risk of water leaks when it rains? Have you noticed if there are any gaps caused by these guards when you close your doors?

I have the mopar sill guards along with Xpel tape...you can't really see the Xpel tape but it is there. my wife kicks the side every time she gets in and it has held up great over the last 24000 miles and 2 years since I put it on. I do that to all my rigs and they remain scratch free at least from getting in and out :)

I haven’t had any issues with them regarding the rain. So far so good👌
