Hi all,

I have been dealing with a series of issues ever since I had the 19a clutch recall done on August 26th at Palmer CDJR in Roswell, GA. From the moment I drove it home I knew something was wrong. I had to force the gear shift into 1st, heard loud grinding when shifting into 2nd and 3rd, and a whizzing hollow dragging sound in 3rd after shifting. And when shifting out of third i hear and feel a cloud clicking/vibrating in the gear shift. I took the vehicle back to the dealer multiple times. Drove with multiple mechanics and the shop manager. All said they heard nothing. Instead of bringing the vehicle back in for diagnostic the shop manager just had me show up with appointment or paperwork. I insisted something was wrong and his solution was to call in a regional Chrysler engineer. This shop manager did not want to do anything for me. That regional engineer came a couple weeks later and during a test drive with me, he said various things like "jeeps make noise" or "not normal driving conditions" and "I'm not hearing what you are hearing." I was flabbergasted. I insisted further that something wasn't right. He said he would refer me to another dealer for second opinion and have diagnostic costs covered. Ok, I go to another dealer, Woodstock CDJR. I explain in detail that multiple issues were occurring. Gear shifter noise, grinding into gear, and whizzing sound after shifting. They take me seriously and I test drive to demonstrate the issues. They quickly figure out my flywheel was either faulty or installed improperly and replaced it. Wonderful, no more grinding into gear. But pretty soon after driving off the lot, I hear the gear shifter buzzing/clicking or whatever it is, as well as the hollow grinding post-shift. I go back and they drive with me but insisted that no further adjustments can be made on the clutch cables to try solving the noise from shifter. And they say they hear no noise that I am claiming sounds like a transmission whizzing. Ok, I leave without solution.

Fast forward a few days, I'm now hearing/feeling a crazy loud buzzing and vibration from the clutch pedal in 2nd and 3rd gear when above 3000rpms. Only stops when slowing down, upshifting, or placing light pressure on the clutch pedal. I've gone back and asked for a re-review and diagnostic only to be told they can't say whether the shifter noise is normal and need to compare to another JL with recall completed. But they have no vehicle for comparison. They also aren't acknowledging the possible transmission noise or the clutch pedal vibration. I spoke with the shop manager- he sounded sympathetic and wants to help but cant say what if anything is wrong. So nothing is getting done. I told him I was going to start a complaint with FCA, but even after talking to customer support, I feel like I'm not really being listened to- very low effort conversation from their end and im not sure the person really got the details right. I had to repeat myself and clarify a lot. I have driven this vehicle nearly every day for the past 1.5 years i know what normal sounds like. Suddenly too many things sound off after the clutch recall. What am I to do here?

Sorry to say and I know you don’t want to hear this but cut your losses bite the bullet and pay 3k for a reputable shop to install an ACT or center force clutch and all your problems will be fixed.

I'm not opposed to this option, but I have no idea which ACT clutch to chose and I'm not sure what impact of the software update would have on the aftermarket clutch.

If I install the aftermarket clutch, what are the chances Jeep will weasel out of warranty work for transmission in the future? I'm only at 36086 miles right now and I'm convinced that something in the trans is out of alignment.

All it takes is a phone call.....
Just saying 🙂
You're not wrong! I guess I mean to say 'which is the right one and what are customer experiences with the different models down the line'. I need to do a lot of reading and then rely on a nearby custom shop for guidance. I'll likely head down that road after my next showdown with Chrysler eengineers. I'm just baffled by the way I'm getting jerked around.

I'm really sorry about your Jeep service experience.
It seems to be a common thread around here lately... it's sad.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'which is right,' but you can't go wrong with either Centerforce or ACT... I went with ACT... JP6-HDSS with zero ragerts ;).

If you do... also try for reimbursement...it's 50/50; some have been successful, others not so much.

The massive clutch thread is chock full of different experiences about all this.
