  1. Took the 4XE in for the recalls (defroster + battery fire) today. Saying no fixes for the battery issue until December.

I did leave with a new Grand Cherokee loaner which is ok. It ain't the Wrangler, but it's not bad. Service advisor said they'll likely call me soon as they anticipate having to work something out with Hertz instead of their on-site captive rental agency. This is gonna be a shit show. Demand...
  2. List of accessories that DON'T work on the 4xe

Most accessory manufacturers didn't really understand the 4xe would be different in meaningful ways. We just figured this out when ordering the Mopar rear cargo tray from Quadratec. Fortunately, they recognized the error, but the website hasn't been changed. Feel free to add to this list...
  3. Whenever someone calls a new or newer Wrangler "soft" or "not a real Jeep," show them the CJ5 Tuxedo Park

Pics of a Tuxedo park in either baby blue or pink have been my go to for over a decade whenever anyone talks about Jeeps becoming "soft" or not "built like they used to be." The fact is that each Wrangler was more capable off-road than the Wrangler and CJs prior to it. I've had CJs, TJs, JKs...
  4. Bought a 4xe, love it. Want to pass on what I think is the best (cheapest) way to buy it:

I believe in giving credit where it is due and rewarding those who are good at their jobs. I'm gonna give a plug for Steve Beckmann at Jim Butler, who I discovered in the "Ordering" forum: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/recommended-dealers-list.1227/ We worked almost...
  5. Options not available on 4XE: Perforated leather, side steps (any of them), what else?

I found it odd that certain options weren't available for the 4XE such as side steps or the perforated leather. We will probably go aftermarket instead for both. I assume the perforated leather unavailability is because of the blue stitching in the 4XE which would be a lot of fuss to add to...
  6. Just got an email that 4XE ordering is up for dealers

I'll post my price once the salesman replies to my email.
  7. Is there a reason why you couldn't put hybrid or EV batteries inside the frame rails of a Wrangler?

Finding places for batteries seems to be one of the biggest issues with hybrids and EVs - engineers have to make sure there is enough passenger and storage room. Most EVs and hybrids use banks of what are essentially specialized hobby batteries, a bit larger than your average AA: When I look...
  8. One item not yet discussed - a hybrid Wrangler will have a GVWR of 6000+ pounds, qualifying it for a big tax giveaway: Section 179

The TL;DR of 179 is that, if you own a business, you can (for all practical purposes) depreciate the entire purchase price immediately. That means if you pay $60,000 for the vehicle, you get to use it as an immediate $60,000 expense. This alone will sell quite a few of them.
