Saturday was a real tear-jerker. I was not exaggerating when I said she was a Grandmother to all of us, the teenagers and twenty-somethings were crying the hardest during the service, regardless of blood relation or not.

Jrex and Ike got a bit muddy yesterday Took some backroads for pizza, and explored a new trail.

Mornin' Jeeples! Everything hurts today...

Weekend was a whirlwind of cycling! Started off at 6AM Saturday to pick up Dad at the airport, followed by bagels for breakfast. Subway into Manhattan to pick up Dad's rental bicycle. First time he was on one in 25 years, and it started raining.

We cycled around Manhattan to the Bike Expo to get our race packets for Sunday, pouring rain the whole time. Return home; 15 miles for the day. Shower, regroup, out to get pizza and pastries.

Return home, we call it a day around 9:30; big day on Sunday.

Sunday. 51°F. Constant driving rain. Time to ride 40 miles!

Ride to subway station near the East River; ride the train to WTC. Circle around to Trinity Church, and we're off!

Through Central Park...



A rest stop at mile 15 in Astoria

Passing through Brooklyn...

Onto the BQE...

40 miles, 4.5 hours, constant rain, lake sized puddles, and one broken bike chain later, and we're in Staten Island boarding the ferry home, soaked to the bone, shivering, and covered in grime.

I’ve always been one of those, “people are inherently good” types. And it would seem I’m a bit old fashioned - I believe in friendship, loyalty, honesty, and owning your actions.

Just been blindsided by the realization that those values aren’t as common as I thought.
