Great job on this! Nice and clean!
Many thanks. Clean indeed. No more mishmash of black and chrome.

Looks good! I think the black grill & lights should have been what we got instead of the silver.
Thanks man. If you ordered a Sahara, you have no choice. Only the Rubicon comes with blackened grills and fog light trim and emblems.

So that’s what I did this weekend.

Blacked out the front grill and fog light bezels on my Sahara. Red tow hooks and black badges are next.

Looks great! I JUST did this, this weekend too. Did the grille and fog light trim and hooks yesterday... then I just finished the emblems and keyhole locks today. No more silver or chrome visible, except for the stock Sahara wheels. Can’t wait to get a mild lift and dark wheels.

Then yesterday I also got her blood transfused with Amsoil Sig Series 0W20 and filter. She’s ready for the year.

After installing some additional reverse lighting last weekend, I finally got it wired up today. If I was willing to splice into tow harness would have been easier but... Didn't want to compromise wires so exposed already..

Why would it be any different exposure wise... You already have all lets say exposed there at the 7 pin. As long as you do the job right, there is no reason not to properly tap in by the 7 pin for your aux b/u lights.

So, with that said guys/gals should not worry about tapping in at the 7 pin. Just do it right.. But sure, if you want to tap up higher ... by the tail lamp, go for it...

Disagree for my purposes. Respect that's what you did and provided much guidance to others in the back up light threads. I don't love the exposure of the trailer hitch wiring as is, cutting it apart and resealing it with shrink wrap or your liquid tape method made me uncomfortable.

I didn't see a viable way to hook up without risking exposure to rocks or rogue branches. Like you noted, the taillight cavity is well protected and has ample room and there's a natural path from frame rail for wires run from engine bay. It's a bit more difficult but well worth it, for anyone, especially if you lack tow package.

If done correctly, there is no reason not to tap in at the 7 pin. Indeed, all there is at risk as it is residing low on the JL.

Lets face it , if you tear out the 7 pin on a boulder, branches, etc. .... well, you repair. If you knock out that b/u Aux wire then or at any other time you fix it.

By the way, have you ever gone under and looked at your stock 7 pin wiring.. If you did you would realize that all is let say a sitting duck down there so to speak. Remember all your 7 pins connectors and their wires are all exposed down there. Your diddly splice down there is just another connection there.

Again, great way to do the splice is up high.... but, no major reason to go to all that effort for a b/u wire connection 8-)
To each his own.,..

YUP, obvioulsy, if you do not have tow package, the choice to go the harder way is your only way...... oh my..

Spent 4 hours under there today so, yes, looked at it as much as anyone else has. Don't generally cut into my 50k toy without assessing the options. Obviously did my homework on the threads you posted.

Do it once, do it right. I won't be doing it twice. Maybe I'll integrate the 7pin into the next bumper to reduce that risk too? Hmm

Well, now, it is all about enjoying those aux b/u lights. For sure you will see and benefit from them.

Did you also hook them up to an Aux switch?

In closing........... please paint your muffler and tailpipe, black. :CWL: Unpainted really bothers me..

Yeah I have a 2019 Sahara and have been thinking about making a lot of the silver/chrome black. Never have liked the chrome look. Just haven't spent the money or time to do it yet.

Smittybilt X2O 10K on a Rusty's winch plate AND a Draw Tite front hitch bar install. Had to pick the hardware wisely and hope it all fit together, and it worked! However, as others can attest, the control box for the winch must be mounted separately since the cables run out the back and get pinched by the front grille bezel. I mounted it to the side, but I don't have the final photo. I have to cut a hole in the OEM skid for the hitch before I can put it back.
