We have all seen aftermaths of storm damage but I think the reason I posted these pic's was from the empathy I feel and the fact that I know what they just went through . The first few days your just numb from trauma and then reality sets in and then you go into survival mode .

I hate mother nature when she acts out like this too !!

The amazing side to all of this is how everybody steps up like FEMA , red cross , power companies from different states put together conveys , donation and food drives ..... everybody pitches in , Random acts of Kindness and Humanity trumps all the social bullshit and hatred and we help to rebuild !!

It's God's way of saying we need to get our shit together !
Reminds me of Sandy...not nearly as powerful, but because NY isn't as hardened against these things, the devastation was comparable. I was doing rapid assessment building inspections on the Rockaways - a small peninsula/sandbar that the Atlantic completely traversed. The neighborhood I was inspecting is called Breezy Point. It's on the very tip of the peninsula. Full of incredibly densely packed houses and bungalows, it's home to mostly retired firefighters and police officers. I remember seeing hundreds of homes burned to the ground - there was a fire. At one home, dozens of FDNY sifting through rubble. Their goal? An engagement ring. I don't know if they ever found it.

The National Guard was there too of course. However, three ships from the US Navy anchored in the Lower Bay and sent their sailors onshore to help. They pumped out basements. The City had to call in the Army Corps of Engineers to drain the subway tunnels - all of them under the rivers had flooded. You have to drain flooded tunnels in a very specific way, especially when they're that old. Luckily, the USACE literally wrote the book on this.

There were food trucks lined up down the main thoroughfare in Breezy Point. All their food was free for survivors, first responders, and aid workers. Neighbors helped neighbors. New Yorkers, who are known for their attitudes, were showing a truly heartwarming amount of compassion for each other. To underscore this, weeks before the 2012 election, Chris Christie (pre-Bridge-Gate), Republican Governor of NJ, Andrew Cuomo, Democratic Governor of NY, Michael Bloomberg (Mayor of NYC), and President Obama worked side by side to get aid to where it needed to be. Even in that political climate, those men were still honorable enough to set aside the rhetoric and their differences and attack the problem head on.

It is some comfort at least to know that, deep down, everyone has a modicum of humanity that will come out in the most dire of times. Regrettably, the threshold for this show of compassion grows ever higher, but it is there.

One thing I remember seeing is how the rest of the world watches these disasters. No other country can singlehandedly mount such a recovery effort time and time again. As horrible as the circumstances are, how we handle them as a nation is impressive to the point of mystifying to the rest of the world. It is during these times that we truly are great.

This is a tough time for Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. But, as shown time and time before, we recover, rebuild, and restore.

Yep. Any for anyone driving, I just realized I mixed-up my highways last night. It's on highway 11. But don't worry, not far from the split with the 400. :giggle:

(It's about 160 km almost due north of Toronto)
Well, Toronto is 8-9 hours from me alone...plus another 100 miles. Those had better be some AMAZING burgers...:movember:

3 of those guys have a regular bed time partner... and one will just wind up passed out face down in the lake drinking liquor straight out of the bottle like that... at least make a good cocktail or put it on the rocks...
I see your point, which proves a point...
