Hello All,

Recently picked up a JLU sport s and I got a fulll take off suspension from a JLU rubicon to put on it as I believe it will give a little lift without having to go with the Mopar lift for warranty. I have been calling dealers around my area and they are quoting around 1200 dollars to install the rubi take offs. Anyone have experience with this and who did you have do it? Or am I just going to have to sink a boat load of money into it. I was quoted 1800 for the Mopar lift so if it’s only 600 extra to get the better suspension I may go that route and sell the rubicon take offs. Looking for some advice from the Jeep veterans out there!

Thanks!

Also does anyone know if I should just change the springs and shocks if everything else is the same? Looking for some advice from the Jeep veterans out there!

Thanks!

Springs and shocks came with it right? Its pretty simple install. Take off shocks, loosen control arm bolts, droop axle enough on each side spring will fall out, put new spring in on each side, bolt shocks back up. Bolt wheels back on drop to ground, tighten control arms back to spec. Shouldnt take too long. I did the whole xfactor install in less than a day. Good luck! Oh make sure to orient springs right way and they might be eah side oriented too. Forgot to add sway bar links you will have to take off from axle side and possible track bar on one side to get it to droop enough. Dont think i missed anything. If i did hopefully someone chimes in. Its not too hard, just take your time if you do it yourself!

Thanks! Does you know if I just have to change springs and shocks? I have new control arms and everything to go along with the front end. If I don’t need to change them i will keep them for spares.

No if they gave you new ones put them on. They will be longer and correct the axle position better. Are they just lower fronts? Just make sure to torque them on the ground with the weight of the vehicle on them to properly seat the bushing. The torques for the front lower control arms are on this list ill post.

Awesome! Thanks. Yeah I got the lower control arms and the bar and shock that controls the steering and sway bar links.

You may have to use the floor jack to manipulate the front axle to twist a little forward or backwards to get the control arm holes to line up, but you might not, just a tip. I had to for the rock krawler control arms to get them to line back up to the new specs.

Its a little time consuming to install all of that. But nothing is adjustable they are all fixed, so its a simple uninstall reinstall with the longer parts.

Did u get quotes from other shops? Dealer usually charge 4-5times more than usual shops....I think TTchris said he charged around 300 to do a budget lift on someone but everything depends on location of course. I havent asked around in my area how much they'll charge but theres plenty of 4x4 shops in the SFV

If you want to go the dealer might as well install the mopar lift although itll give u around 3.5" like others have said.

I know your not local, but for reference I charge $250 to install Rubicon take offs(Springs, shocks, front lower arms.)
It's a relatively easy job if you have the right tools. If you don't already own the tools/stands needed to do it in the garage I would shop around for better deals. If you plan on doing future work yourself, purchase the tools for the next job. I think everyone that goes offroading in the Jeep should have a basic understanding of how everything is put together. I always take a tool bag with me as you never know what can happen on the trail.

Wish I was in your area....got quoted 600 the cheapest...I picked up some take offs without even asking for prices of install lol I do have a set of 3 ton stands but no floor jack or a 190 ft lb torque wrench. I would like to takle this myself since it does sound easy but I'm just a little uneasy about it and my driveway isnt flat/best shape lol

Join some of your local Jeep groups. I'm sure someone would be willing to lend you a hand, tools and possibly a straight driveway as long as you supply the Beer. You will be surprised at how many fellow Jeepers will work for Beer.
Before I ran a shop we would occasionally have meetups where we would work on our Jeeps. For those of us with a mechanical background it was usually fun, for those without it was a good learning experience.
