NO to the SOT.
I drive a 2dr (1/2 doors), soft top, manual. During the hottest months, the half-doors and all the soft top parts come off. If it rains, it rains. It's supposed to be a Jeep, not an Escalade.

And for the record, "unwanted blow job" is an oxymoron.

Rationale of hard top: I get the desire to take the top off, makes sense. It also makes sense if people want a roof top tent. Other than these, I have heard no other compelling reasons to not have a SOT. As a 3 time SOT owner and frequent driver of both SOT and hard top jeeps I don’t believe the SOT is materially louder (when closed). Also there is no difference in the safety during a lightning storm between a cloth top and a hard plastic panel. Reality is, they’re both safe because of the other metal at the top; A/B/C pillars and roll bars and metal door frames.

anyone who isn’t going to take the top off or does not roof top camp or use top for storage - I don’t understand why you wouldnt take a SOT all day every day. Super convenient. I use mine all the time.

This is why for me. Safari mode with or without doors is the best config. Plenty of sun protection while getting the open air, flop the top back if you want more sun for a short time. And you dont get the goofy look of the SOT upper hard top and rear window still there when you take its side windows out.

FWIW - there were complaints and at least one thread about the plastic rivets the pull straps attach to breaking on the early ones. Even detailed repair instructions with pics using bolts and nuts to replace them. But nothing since. Maybe they upgraded the rivets, or had a bad batch ? Dunno, I have been a bit nervous about them since, mine is a 21.
I haven't heard anything at all about them, which seems like a good thing! This wasn't their first rodeo with that style of roof, there was another vehicle that had something similar, and afaik those didn't hold up very well. I think the design for this one was improved.

I mean at the end of the day, in the worst case you can replace the top with a normal hard top. So it really isn't that big a deal. Just money.

My brother who has an auto upholstery business says he hasn't had anyone bring him a SOT for repair. So that seems like a good thing as they have been out since 2018. He gave me lots of hell when he saw mine. He said Jeep tried that once before and it was dog shit. They didn't work half the time and he couldn't get parts to fix them when they did break. Figure when mine breaks (or leaks), I'm looking for a hard top.

Totally agree. Doors and windows off with SOT is a horrible look. So is doors on with back windows out. Some people do it and make the best of it, but it’s not great. I guess I’ll add that to my list - half doors, I’d love half doors but with having to keep the top on, that’s just meh.

I voted no. It goes against my KISS philosophy. Keep it simple.

As a SOT owner I feel bad for those without it.
The rear windows coming out is also a huge plus of the SOT.

I think it's aimed at the senior citizen community. This along with the automatic running board are hilarious to me. All of this stops just short of a chair lift to help you get in and out of the Jeep. If it that much trouble for you to let your top down, or to get into your Jeep, then a Jeep isn't for you. Try the Buick dealership down the street.

I don't think that looks any worse than any other JL does without doors. The primary ugly point is orphaned body collar B-pillar, regardless of the top.
The 4 door already looks goofy due to the missing C-Pillar and then you add, the rails at the top and the rear window that is sticks around it just looks extra goofy.

I don't see an issue....
Some guys like blondes...some like brunettes....
Just the convivence of a 12 month top on/off makes it worth it.

No. A Jeep with hard or soft top removed looks like a Jeep with no top. The one touch thing looks like a Jeep that is missing pieces when everything removed.

My opinion.

Uh...what happens when you become a senior citizen one day and for some strange reason you still like Jeeps?
