I'm getting alot of conflicting reviews on what is the best overall A/T for on-road driving.

I'm coming from a 35x12.50r18 Nitto Terra Grappler G2 A/T tire with a load E rating. My next move will be the same size except on a 17 inch rim.

For the longest time, I was set on the MT Baja Boss A/Ts. But a new forum search is telling me they are still pretty loud, and that the new KO3s might be better. Many are saying to go the Falken route or the Ridge Grappler route. And many are saying its hard to wear out the Baja bosses evenly without going too low on air pressure for on-road driving (any truth to that claim??)

Someone convince me to stick with MTs, or give me new suggestions.

Coming from the Terra Grapplers, I want something that is better in rain, tracks well at high speeds (70+ mph), and is quiet.

I have two sets of Mickey baja bosses...one an AT and the other MT and both are wearing very evenly at 28-30psi cold...both are quiet...I rotate ~3000 miles.

The "best" A/T tire for on road driving would be a mild A/T tire like the Hankook Dynapro AT2 Xtreme, but you will sacrifice offroad performance.

I am not sure that is what you want though, because you said you want to be convinced to stick with M/Ts. To me, that sounds like you still want the offroad performance of an M/T while still improving onroad performance.

If that is the case, consider the Wrangler Duratrac. IMO, that is the closest you can get to M/T performance while still maintaining A/T road manners.

I have the Baja Boss AT’s on both my JT and Grand Cherokee - I will buy them again when the time comes. I have zero complaints on the noise level and they handle amazing in sand, snow, rain and daily driving. In terms of AT tires - I have had Toyo AT3s, BFG KO2 (least favorite in rain) and Generals.

My absolute favorite on road only tire has to be the Michelin Defender Ms2. You just can’t beat the comfort, tread wear or handling for an all season tire.

Get a tire that suits your driving lifestyle. Functionality over looks will always win.

If you want a better ride, make sure you stick with load range C.

I just did a 400 mile trip to the beach and back weekend. My tires are Toyo Open Country RT Trail. More aggressive than an AT, but still not an MT. They hum, but don’t howl on the highway. Quiet enough that I forget about them. Smooth riding, even up to 90 MPH. Aggressive enough to handle most any terrain. Soft sand was no challenge for them.

I haven't had the K03, but K02 vs Mickey Thompson BB AT, I would hands down go with the Mickey Thompson BB AT. It is much more aggressive off-road and only slightly noisier than the K02. Not annoying at all. Nothing like a mud tire. But off-road traction is tremendously better than my K02s and on-road is very similar. The Mickey Thompson BB AT is probably the nicest balance of on and off-road performance that I've every had in a tire.

It's not as aggressive as some AT (like the MT BB AT) but I've run the Yokohama ATs (both the AT/4 and the AT/G015 on pickups, Wranglers, and now my Grand Cherokee. Excellent in all types of road conditions and fine for modest off-roading not involving mud. Best AT for rain that I've ever owned. I had some Toyo ATs for a while but once worn down a bit they were downright scary on wet pavement, just as KO2s can be.

I don't know if they are available in the size you need, I'm running Kumho Road Venture AT52 on my Rubi (stock size). They are mostly road, quiet, yet are load range E for the LT's.

Toyo AT3's if mostly road. quieter than BB AT's and handle better. Ive had both. BB AT's also run small.
I had the opposite experience..I like them both but like the BB at better and they are quieter. both sets were/are pizza cutters the ATIII were 35x11.5-17 and the BB 255/85-17 the 255/85-17 are taller than the toyos. again like them both just a different experience than you. I did try the ATIII in 37's as well.

100% agree on your take on the Michelin - It's also proven to be VERY good on the beach here for me. I'm on the beach every week and you don't want to "dig in" on sand (as you might with more aggressive tread AT/MT), and aired down the MS2's have been great, "floating across" the sand. Granted it's not for those that will see more rugged off-road activity, but for someone like me whose only use is highway and beach/sand, I think this tire is tough to beat.

I’ve ran BFG AT’s, KO’s and KO2’s in sizes 30”, 31”, 32, 33”,285’s, 315’s, 35’s and current 37’s.
Zero complaints.
That being said, I installed a set of Firestone Destination XT’s on my Tacoma and am thoroughly impressed with them.
