Would be prefect with an extra cab (maybe with half suicide doors like the FJ) and keep this same wheelbase. I know it would take some bed space but it would look sporty and functional... Jeep should build different truck variants... :)

Money better spent on a real FJ PU, cheaper than cutting up a Jeep and undoubtedly more reliable.

the JK PU concept posted on pg 3 has the little rear suicide doors. Its a better design than this new one IMO.

The 392 is not the significant aspect of this custom built Wrangler but rather the 2 door single cab with the 6 foot bed configuration. I had posted this in the 2 door JL category thinking that people interested in a 2 door offroad vehicle might be interested in seeing a really well built 2 door Wrangler pickup. A pickup much smaller than Jeeps version of a pickup but with a bed much better suited to do truck stuff. Perhaps we need a new category to post examples such as this in since at least three really well crafted versions have been successfully created, each having gathered significant interest.

I doubt that the demand for a 2-door Gladiator is high enough to justify the additional cost to set up a new production line. But I would buy one in a heartbeat.
Look at the full size pickups. Most of them are 4dr 5' bed. Harder to find a 2dr 8' bed anymore.
Most of the things I worked with are 10' long, these new trucks make no sense to me.

Wow. 2-Door with a 6' bed, I'd take that without the 392 and even if FCA said no more manuals I'd take it with an automatic. If they'd make it with the current 4xe drivetrain I'd buy it. That's exactly the configuration I want and need. The four doors on the current Gladiator are two too many, and the four foot bed is just too short for my needs.

The frustrating thing is that at Toledo South they have excess capacity, since the existing Gladiator market is being tapped out. They'd have to invest in some body stampings, pretty much everything else could be done with off the shelf parts. Even if they only made about 30K annually of these, they could make some money. And until the new management took over, Chrysler was known for making weirdo low production run vehicles like the Plymouth Prowler and the Dodge Viper. Sad that this will never come to be...

Full-size sedans and station wagons have functionally been regulated out of existence by ever-increasing Federal CAFE standards. The two trucks that preceded my JLU purchase were in the garage precisely because they provided the interior space (all three of us are tall) and general carrying capacity that is and has been absent from the passenger vehicle market for a good while now.

The sheer preponderance of crew cab light trucks isn't accidental. They aren't subject to the same efficiency and crash protection standards as are passenger vehicles. Millions of folks just like myself are making the rational choice to buy the vehicles we need, and not the vehicles that Uncle Sugar might otherwise like to restrict us to. These particular buying trends make perfect sense.

Yes, the foregoing has had the collateral effect of shortening bed lengths -- necessarily, I'll begrudgingly concede -- but neither are 8' beds needed by a plain majority of light truck buyers. Even that constituency that might need a long bed -- contractors and landscapers -- have in many instances pivoted to pulling open and enclosed trailers, so that the crew cab/short bed trucks that they too are driving can haul the family at night after towing tools and mowers during the day.

The writing was on the wall as far back as 1990. There were any number of automotive print journalists who recurringly inserted "last of the breed" in their articles when the then-new generation of the full-size Chevrolet Caprice sedan and wagon were introduced. I remember; I was there. ;) When that model was eventually withdrawn, only the Ford Crown Victoria remained as the literal last man standing. And now that one is gone, too, replaced by the just-another-jellybean Ford Taurus.

No more towing/payload capacity than the 4 door donor Wrangler that it was born from.
A cool idea, but a truck it's not.

Awesome rig, but wouldn't be useful in my world. Give it a manual and at least an extended cab and that would get my heart pumping.
An extended cab would also be rad! It could use the same bed as this JT2 on a standard JT frame like this render I made based on Jeep’s JK based Gladiator concept.

Obviously I love it…which is why I made all of these renders of single cab Jeeps!

Personally I think a CJ-8 Scrambler type body with an integrated bed that can open to the cab makes more sense because you can add more tops to it. But either way I’m happy someone else has done this.

Surprised nobody has made a kit for this conversion yet like was available for the JK.

While I agree this would be a fantastic option in this configuration, I still wouldn’t trade my Gladiator for it. It’s amazing to see how divided the two door vs four door crowd is. Everyone who commented on how ugly the gladiator was is rocking a 2 door wrangler. I think one guy even said it had a 4 foot bed ?

being a family man the two doors just don’t work for me. We have a JLU and a JTOD in the driveway, and I wouldn’t trade either in for a 2 door. Doesn’t make enough sense to me.
