lol, I do believe we were getting our asses handed to us for a while there... Washington DC burned down (Except for the Marine Barracks, Oorah!)
And our government on the run.

I've always learned it ended more as a draw more than anything.

Well we kept Old Glory and our system of gov't. However, things were going wrong back then too, but the People are to busy with day to day stuff to notice or care.

It’s interesting, though. Up here, as a part of the much needed reconciliation, we are having much richer conversations about the war of 1812 than we ever had before. It’s gone from “the Americans wanted to invade. They didn’t succeed. Therefore we technically won” to a conversation about the native role in the war, the significance of their support of the British, and their betrayal afterwards.

Edited to add: this is the conversation that is now taking place in schools, and what kids are learning. Sadly, we have a long way to go before native contributions to Canadian history are recognized by the broader population.
