This is why I'm glad for SpaceX, we have a private company not interested in the politics of space travel involved now.

SpaceX is nice because they aren't beholden to anyone. It's also a double-edged sword, because they cannot be compelled (outside of market forces) to focus on certain fields (radio-astronomy, for example). At the end of the day, no one can spend money on space exploration like the Fed can. NASA is about a lot more than sending people into space.

Yeah, It's bigger than just what I, a layman, can see. But It still rubs me the wrong way that we are reliant on the Russian Soyuz craft to get our own astronauts to the space station...

I completely agree. It makes me a little sick to be honest. Especially in light of current events, having to rely on Russia for anything strikes me as inherently foolish.

We have the resources to fix this quickly. Congress refuses to spend the money though.

Edit: Their losses are at a rate of about $8k a minute.

Which would roughly translate into 10 JLRs per hour :cwl: (assuming ~$48k each)
