Generally, I avoid Manhattan at all costs because of this. But, if I want to get west of the city, it's unavoidable. Good thing is, Manhattan is easily the best served boro by the subway, so you really don't need a vehicle there. They're good for escaping the city, not getting around it.

I do envision a time when I will yearn for more space and fewer people...probably if/when I settle down and get a family started.

lol, take all the pedestrians away and put them on scooters and that will look like just about any SE Asia traffic scene you'll see.
