Why lurk here?
✔ SHARE about lighting hacks – from nailing that perfect light beam to fixing the ‘why’s-my-Jeep-blinking-Morse-code?’ chaos.
✔ NEED your expertise: What drives you nuts about Wrangler lights? Spill the beans, and we’ll build gear that actually listens to Jeepers!
✔ Sale Plug-and-play LEDs 600% brighter than halogen (no wiring PhD needed, just plug and play).
✔ Tools that never bail on a cold crawl – think ‘Jeep-Jump’ starters with more grit than a mud-caked alternator. Dead battery? Not on our watch.

We’ll swap mod hacks, share the best lighting upgrades, and never spam.

I'm curious, are the color matching halos DOT approved, legal?

DOT would be mostly for LED headlights.
White and amber led are street-legal colors. People have their own preferences about running with white LED DRL or amber. But need to make sure it complies with the specific regulations of the state you are in.

It appears you are an expert on LEDs. I have a problem that makes me crazy. It is a 2020 JLR and I have added and removed a spare tire brake light ring. When I have it on, with or without also having the center mount brake light connected, the brake light will go on for a few seconds and then go off. Once it goes off, a restart of the vehicle is required. The R and L brake lights work normally. I have tried this with two different ring lights with similar results. The one with fewer LEDs stays on a few seconds longer.

Do you have any ideas? I posted a thread on here about this a year or two ago with little help.

I appreciate the kind words, but I'm not terribly specialized. I will try to search the internet and summarize some failure analysis. I'm hoping an owner will be able to provide a more professional opinion:

1. BCM current monitoring mechanism
JLR's BCM implements real-time current monitoring of the brake light circuit. When an abnormal current (exceeding the preset tolerance ±15%) is detected, a protective cutoff is triggered. Your modification results in the following two situations:
A.Overcurrent protection: the total ring light load exceeds the factory CMHSL (Center-Mounted High Brake Light) design current (approx. 0.8A for factory, may reach 1.2-1.5A after modification)
B. Reverse EMF interference: Voltage spikes generated by poor quality LED drivers are misclassified as short circuits

2. Signal logic conflict
Adding a ring light may change the light status feedback signal on the CAN bus, causing the BCM to believe that there is a “light failure - retry - force off” fault cycle.

I think it is most likely that fault 2 is the problem.
Do you have a picture? I'm not sure what kind of spare tire brake light ring you are talking about. Also you mentioned the LED's the lesser one lights up for a few seconds longer what position light are you referring to?

Thank you SO MUCH for your reply! That is definitely the best explanation I have heard and is about what I guessed was the case.
This is the larger one.

This is the smaller one.

Both are Amazon specials and full of chinesium. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I see other jeeps on the road using similar products and they have no problem.

Clearly, the larger one (which is no longer available) has a lot of LEDs and when it works, it looks great, for about 5 seconds. Then, not so much. The smaller one lasts longer but isn't very bright and hardly worthwhile. I have been thinking of trying to put in a relay and using a different power source. Maybe the power plug inside. That seems like it would be a lot of work for very little benefit.

The seller could or would not tell me any of the electrical specs.

It looks like this product doesn't fit the electrical specs of your vehicle. It looks like it was sold without proper internal electrical testing. But I'm not an IT or electrical expert.
I can only organize some of the solutions I've searched for for you. You can check the screenshot below.

Last suggestion is to buy a better quality product or a guaranteed brand like extremeterrain, oraclelights. I searched them online and they seem to have good reviews, of course if auxito has the product you want I'd like to recommend it to you but we don't sell light rings like that. lol

I noticed oraclelights is also in this forum as a sponsor, maybe they will give you a more professional opinion since they sell the products you mentioned.

Thank you so much! I am amazed at how thoroughly you researched it. I will read your post more carefully in the morning but I think I need to file these two rings in the round file and start over with a name brand. I might reach out to @ORACLElights directly.

You definitely get a double thumbs up from me.

Most welcome.
As I said, I'm not a professional, so there may be errors in the statements I've provided.
I look forward to learning how this matter was resolved, and if there is a correct answer, please feel free to let me know🙌

We appreciate the tag in this. Like previously stated, a change in current can definitely trigger a fault with the BCM. I would suspect a circuit that is shorted or exposed in some way would be causing this. There isn't anything that you should have to do when installing a third brake light.

Check out our product page and install video, if you need. https://www.oraclelights.com/products/oracle-led-illuminated-wheel-ring-brake-light
