Only Jeep owners would drive 4,000 miles for a bunch of badges to proudly display on their Jeeps! Four members of Valley Jeepsters embarked on such an Adventure in July across Northwest.
First stop, BoH trail outside of Boise, Idaho called The Lost Trail. The trail is rated 5 with optional 7 technical challenges. The temperatures were in the low 80’s, the trail was dry and we’ve completed it in about 90 minutes which was supposed to take at least 3 hours. We attributed our success to years of experience conquering Arizona trails and thought the rest of the trip would be cake walk. Man, were we wrong!
Next stop, Mullan, Idaho and two days of offroading with Jeep Jamboree in Silver Valley. As always, the Jamboree did not disappoint. It was supposed to rain the entire weekend, but the storm got delayed just enough for us to complete the trails. We’ve had a blast with nearly 100 other Jeeps traversing trails on public lands owned by a famous movie star whose name we swore to protect!
From there a short drive north Kalispell, MT where we conquered the Blackail OHV trail. The trail is rated 4 but it was really just an unpaved dirt road with a bunch of man-made obstacles along the trail. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to play on many of the obstacles since the thunderstorms from Idaho were quickly catching up with us.
The next morning, we drove to Bozeman, MT and hit the new BoH trail Big Bear Lake Road. As reviews point out, this is just another dirt road with quick elevation climb to 8,000+ feet. At this point the rain was really starting to pick up and quickly turned into a snowstorm as we ascended the mountain. As the snow started coming down hard, we had no choice but to turn around about Âľ of the way.
After conquering Montana trails and a brief stop at Yellowstone Park to see the Old Faithful, we returned to Idaho to conquer Hell’s Half Acre outside Idaho Falls. This is a level 6 trail that was supposed to take around 5 hours. Well, it took us about 10 hours to complete! Pictures and videos really don’t capture how difficult this lava rock trail is. Although the mandatory obstacles are solid 6 and 7, there are almost 20 of them including massive cracks that nearly swallowed 37-inch tires. We’ve had couple of close calls and minor Jeep damage but miraculously emerged without any major impairments to our rigs.
The next day we drove to Wyoming and completed Monument Ridge. Although it was an easy trail, it was worth it due to the most incredible 360 views of the surrounding mountains. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to spend much time on top as another storm rolled in with lightning and thunder chasing us down.
Last stop, Vail, CO. Half of our group went exploring Holy Cross trail while we remained in the city to enjoy Fourth of July festivities.
In 10 days, we’ve traveled 3,875 miles, sat in our Jeep seat 107 hours, spent $5,000+ on meals, hotels and gas and were rewarded with SIX badges! The experience was all worth it thought and we’re already making plans for a similar trip next year! Big shoutout to Mike, Ron and Bryce for making this a trip of a lifetime to remember!
