The notice explains the issue in full detail and announces that the recall covers left hand drive JL’s only, built from May 07, 2018 through August 21, 2018. As we noted previously, this covers about 18,000 JL Wranglers which may have been built with track bar bracket welds located off the seam potentially resulting in the bracket separating from the frame. The separation of the front track bar bracket from the frame may cause a reduction in the steering response, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
The repair procedure calls for dealers to inspect the vehicles frame to determine frame build date, and if the frame build date is in the range as specified, photos of the inboard and outboard welds must be submitted to be reviewed by a Track Bar customer care representative for evaluation of the welds position. Vehicles with an out of position weld must have the track bar weld repaired as needed. The repair procedure is detailed in the recall notice.
