Didn't they say this when they first introduced the Recon prototype?

Strange how they can design a new platform for both EV and ICE. You'd think there is a compromise on one or the other. There are so many different traits between the two. Is the Ford Lightening really an F150, for example?

They can, but then both are compromised. I've read reviews that the new gas Charger has an unusually high floor, making the seating a bit weird. Of course, the floor is that high because its meant to have a battery below it.

This should have died with the $65 billion electrification write down.

It would have made a decent flawed 4x4 EV, but the high price and meek range relegated that to the dumpster, now Jeep is looking to salvage their losses by sticking a gas engine into it.

Maybe if they stuff the 5.7 in it, and sell it for sub $40,000 people might bite.

They're trying to do anything to get some ROI out of it. I'm concerned that is might be the basis of the upcoming Jeep Scrambler too. The drive reported that the Scrambler will have four wheel independent suspension. The Recon have a wheelbase of 112" and a track width of 66", making it very similar in size the the WK2 Grand Cherokee.

This has crossed my mind as well. It is possible that the gladiator/scrambler/dakota will be based off the recon. But I don't think it is probable.

Would make more sense if the Scrambler is based off the global Rampage and is a direct competitor of the Maverick. FWD/AWD based unibody IFS/IRS pickup.

Gas prices are through the roof, I would buy a EV with enough range as it would fit my needs perfectly. I also bet that 80% of current Wrangler owners have no idea it has a solid front axle, they are buying them for the look.

I think you're onto something.

The Recon slots a little bit above the Wrangler so basing the Scrambler on it makes a little sense... but STLA Large is unibody, not body on frame.

Gas prices are temporary and nobody takes into consideration how long it takes for the savings to offset the price of the car lol. If it works for you then it works. But it takes almost a decade and not many people keep cars that long anymore, especially EVs. Plus, wouldn’t trust an EV made by Jeep even if it was free

There isn't an EV made with a ~10year RoI when you actually compare "apples to apples". Most are within loan-life, typically between 5-8, and that is based on previous low gasoline prices and also dramatically overestimates costs for things like tires and battery degradation. Real numbers are much lower - for instance my personal experience is our RoI for our family mobile is just over 2 years... That's before you account for how much nicer EVs are, period full stop.

As to gas prices being temporary - nah. The prices we have today are the new normal so you need to get used to it. Prices will never return to what they were 2020-2025. Cheap oil will become scarce sooner than you realize - and geopolitically friendly oil will get scarce much sooner. The actions of the past several months have completely reshaped the power dynamics of the middle east in a way where stability probably will not ever return. It's not impossible that prices will come down a little 2-3 years from now, but I wouldn't be too hopeful for that, and they will be temporary at best...
