I don’t believe the statistics. Lithium-ion and LiPo batteries are banned on commercial airlines, ships, most public transportation and they have destroyed cameras, cell phones, laptops, electric bikes and just about anything they’ve been used in. Not sure why you’re so convinced that using them in cars suddenly makes them safer?

Also not sure why you seem to think EVs are better for the environment? When lithium batteries pop off the gasses produced are extremely toxic, where do you think it goes?

Considering that EVs make up such a small percentage of automobiles and the problems associated with them maybe using commen sense to have have more in depth conversation would be more effective than using biased and useless statistics to make your argument.

oh and i forget who posted this info link, did you just google and post, because you clearly didn't read it...

  • The leading causes of vehicle fires were mechanical failures or malfunctions and electrical failures or malfunctions. Older vehicles accounted for three-quarters of the highway vehicle fires caused by mechanical or electrical failures or malfunctions.
  • Collisions were the leading cause of vehicle fires that resulted in death.

Me in my good ole 3.6 watching nerds fight over parking at the charging station.
TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if the average Tesla battery lasted longer than the average Chrysler 3.6L V6.

And lemme point out: I love Jeeps (and Chryslers) and I don't like Teslas (much).

Like I live in an area with probably more Teslas than almost anywhere else. In the past IDK how many years, I can only recall seeing a Tesla on the back of a tow truck once. I have never seen one catch on fire. Never. I've never seen one on the side of the highway with its hazard lights flashing.

I have seen Jeeps on tow trucks. I still think the FCA vehicles get a way worse rep than they deserve... by far the car I see most on tow trucks is anything made by VW/Audi.

Sky One Touch roof seems a better option.
Takes longer to open, but easier to close and a bit more predictable.

This is a prototype for the ejectable SOT that is a 2025 feature. I will cost and extra $4k on top of the original $4K to have the "self removing SOT". Looking good...

I know, right!
I couldn't agree more. Drive what you want. I just find it weird and hilarious how triggered and defensive these EV evangelists get.
It's all good though 🙂
For what it’s worth, on these forums, I think the slant is significantly more defensiveness and aggression by anti-ev than pro-ev. It’s rare to see a 4XE thread of any type without someone commenting on how *insertnegativething* EVs of any type are.

Every choice in life is full of tradeoffs, and people would do well to stop attacking the other “side” as if they are personally invested, regardless of which “side” that might be. Instead, we get top blowing off threads full of anti-ev gloating over a video with no background, and people commenting on 4XE owners being defensive. Gee, wonder why?

You can’t say you don’t care what choices people make in one breath while attacking them (not even their choices, but them as people) in the next. Information sharing is great and videos like this deserve discussion, but the attacks (in either direction) get tiring to read.

Seen this in my feed today of a parked 4XE battery going nuclear. The hard top gets some real hang time.

Chances of an electric vehicle catching fire is 1 in 38,000. Chances of a car ( this is all types, gas and electric) catching fire is 1 in 10,000. But EVs are the worst. 🤣

Or at least those are the numbers I saw when Googling it. Additionally in a Car and Driver article it said that between 2013 and 2017 it said there were 117,400 cars out of the 261,000,000 registered cars. That is a 0.04% chance of catching fire.

I don’t think I will worry about it at all when we finally venture in to the EV car world.

Makes the Pinto look good.
I had a 74 Pinto station wagon. Only the hatchbacks would explode in the rear end collision. The station wagons did not have the gas tank mounted vertically by the rear axle like the hatchbacks. The Pinto station wagon had the gas tank mounted horizontally like the typical car of the day...

Insurance companies are waking up to this also...
Rates are raising, and it may be hard at some point soon to find providers.
THAT'S your future! 😉
The rates are because the way they are built, a simple fender bender requires replacing the whole back of a Rivan etc, Rivan for example has it's charge port in the bumper area, a place where simple hits are common.

This isn't really an EV problem, but EVs are worse at it, it's more how they have started designing cars lots of expensive plastic junk to hide 💩, like the bumpers that have the tailpipe integration, then the whole front or back that's lined with fragile expensive lighting, these costs add up quickly.

Check out the concept of the Recon with the grill full of lighting, a Wrangler grill can be replaced from free to $300, that Recon grill looks like thousands.

A simple bumper hit on a Wrangler can cost $200 and you can do it yourself, the same on BMW, Merc, Cadillac, Tesla, Polestar, Lexus etc would be thousands of dollars.

I just bought my first Wrangler, which is a 2022 4xE. I didn't get it for the typical mpg or environmental reasons, but honestly it just sounded cool to scoot through the woods quietly. To do that, I rock e-save mode which has me driving the ICE engine all of the time. I'm glad I have an ICE engine, knowing I can gas up on long road trips at any small town, instead of worrying about charging on the route.

I'm grateful for this thread, now in the off chance I see white smoke filling up my Jeep, I know what to expect..

OK lets settle this...

Seems like EV catch fire a lot less than any other types of cars. However, Hybrids are much worse than any other for catching fire.

What type of cars catch fire the most?

A recent study by US insurer, AutoinsuranceEZ found that hybrid cars had the worst fire record, while EVs were the least likely type of car to catch fire. Hybrid cars had 3474.5 fires per 100,000 sale; petrol cars had 1,529.9 fires per 100,000 sales and EVs had just 25.1 fires per 100,000 sales
