Get a pup. 9 weeks old is ideal, but a week or so either way won’t matter much.
Rescue dogs, by definition, have had problems in their lives.
God bless those who understand that, and take them underwing anyway.
But if you want a good dog, start with a blank slate. A pup.
And insist on meeting both parents. Pups don’t fall far from the tree.
And don’t be cheap. $500 isn’t much to pay for 10-15 years of devotion.
Well-bred dogs are worth every penny.
Wife has some say and she has her breeds that she won't do, and she has basically said she doesn't want to go through puppy stage. I don;t blame her, as it is a lot of work, and we don't want to turn having a dog into a learning lesson for our 6 year old son.

With the current stipulations it makes it hard to narrow down what to look for.

Moose loves to ride in the Jeep! He watches everything that goes on when he’s not sleeping. Most of the time he guarding the Jeep with both eyes closed.

Moose is one handsome pooch! He looks just like my old friend Kodi who passed away of cancer about 2 years ago!

Serious question - anyone have their dog jump out when the top is down/off?

I haven’t taken my boy out in the Jeep, yet, because he’s the kind of dope that would definitely do that at a stop. I’m gonna get one of those harnesses, maybe. Also, right now my Jeep is the only possession I have that isn’t covered in dog hair.
I got the Raingler nets for this very reason. Only problem with the nets, being as such that my V is a ball dog too, he's dropped his ball onto the road a couple of times. And since the chuckit balls are about $7 it adds up.

Came across this thread on dogs and jeeps a few minutes ago.

Lost my American Bulldog, Shady, to bone cancer last year after he tore one ACL and then the other while recovering from the first. Health insurance for dog paid for itself with those two surgeries! Great dog and was gone before I got my Jeep. Photos below on his final journey.

Now, I have my guy Fendi who rides in the designated dog vehicle, my Rubicon. He is 8 months and 70 lbs, so I’m very careful with his joints. I’ve dealt with shoulder and hip issues with big dogs in the past, so I use portable steps to get him in and out. Better to teach him now than when when he’s 130 lbs.

a weenie!

I am so excited to be able to post now that my Jeep arrived! I joke and say that I actually bought the Jeep for them - for the black and tan guy, Reese. It was a "present" for his 17th birthday. He LOVES it. He barks and barks until I put the window down.

Thanks, that is another option, but she is so strong when she gets nervous abut the ride.

We had a metal gate up that blocked her from the back seat, it locked in to the rear headrest bars, she ripped it out with her teeth.

The funny thing is, she can easily break out of this crate, but she feels safe in there and mellows out until we get where we are going.
Den instinct, feels safe when not exposed. Pretty normal. Some dogs also do well with the "thunder coats" for the same reason, the physical pressure settles them.

This is Seamus, our nine month old golden doodle. We use a harness that is tethered to the seatbelt buckle. Of all the vehicles he likes riding in the jeep the best.
