I just bought first jeep. Bought a 2021 a month ago (still in 2020). Just made my first payment and my paint is turning yellow already! Also my door locks don’t lock all the way and I had to turn off the auto lock feature which isn’t ideal from a safety standpoint. Def not a very good first impression.

So sad to learn that Jeep has known about this paint/heat issue since 2018 and it is still not resolved. It reflects so poorly on the company to not have the problem resolved 3 years after learning about it. Steer clear of white for sure and possibly consider an entirely different purchase all together!

WTF? I just got a 2021 JLU in white too, but so far not seeing anything like that. Only had it little over 3 weeks and most of that time in the garage. Maybe parked outside 6 days. Not sure how the paint could yellow, is that thin paint maybe over yellow-ish plastic showing through? Not enough primer?

mine has been garaged as well. I have read that the certain engine components are located too closely and it is essentially biting the paint but who really knows. Just so disappointed. I’ve never had anything like this happen to a new vehicle before and to have two things go wrong before my first payment was even due is disheartening.

dang. this is a known issue, but not to THAT extent. most people (including myself) just had the issue with slight yellowing on the grill alone.

God **** it. I just looked at mine, and it's yellowing too in the same place. Drivers side grille, upper portion. I don't have painted fenders, so the only place I notice it so far is the grille. Don't see how this could be heat related, there's nothing near there that would appear to be heating that part up. Thing was made in September and I got it 9/30.

Take it in now before it gets worse. I’m interested to know what they say the problem is if it’s heat then repainting will only be a temporary fox

Welcome to the forum!

Well, that sucks.

I should know this, but isn’t the grille a molded piece of plastic, as opposed to being painted?

If the dealer can’t do anything about it, ask them if FCA is willing to give you a Mopar satin black grille in lieu. I realize this is not ideal, but perhaps it offers a way around.

One catch, though, is that since your Sahara comes with the fancier grille that has inserts and a color-matched surround, you ought to be getting the fancier version of the satin black grille as well. Although in your case, looks like the surround itself is yellowing as well.

Gonna take it up this morning. I don't see how it could be heat related, that area under the hood doesn't seem to have anything in that corner that could produce any significant heat. If anything the passenger side seems more likely but it's not turning yellow. Most of the pics I've seen have all been driver's side?

It’s a known issues with the bright white model grills “yellowing” I know there’s a thread on this from last year discussing the issue.
I believe everyone with the issue had no issues having the dealer repaint it for them.

or

you can “go to the dark side”

Took mine in to dealer, they said they could get it repainted. Not a new one painted, then swapped out, but paint the one that's on there. Right now, in the daylight it's really not that noticeable - it's more noticeable in my garage under LED lights. I did have them note it on the work order so that it's in the system anyway as being an issue at 3 weeks/600 miles.

I'm kind of thinking if it doesn't get any worse I'll just leave it alone because I'm the only one who would probably notice it without me pointing it out to someone. If it gets worse, I'll have them paint it, or get that nice matte grille instead :) I like that grille on @Jay 13 's machine.

Thanks, it’s the mopar black satin grill!

Now depending if you have a sport model, Sahara or rubicon your order may need to include the molding pieces around the grille, as the sport models grill is all one piece... opposed to the moldings being separate pieces on the Sahara and rubicon models, that you can just swap onto the black satin grill to have the painted trim (moulding) pieces around the black, as I have in the pic on mine.

If you have a Sahara or rubicon than you just need the one order of the grill. Order #82215114

either way all the info on it you’ll need depending on your model will be found in this thread

Awesome tip thanks that’s something I will address with them when I take it in on the 2nd. Ya it def doesn’t solve the fender yellowing issue. I’m super curious what they say if it is an actual paint defect or design flaw and it will just happen again to repainted fenders. Guess we shall see.

Why couldnt you just Rhino Line the grill white, or use some other coating. Those grills usually get chipped up in a few years anyway. Just a thought.
