My Willys 2 door is a paved road cruiser. I absolutely love driving it. Of course top down with the music loud is most enjoyable. I drive about 100 highway miles round trip for work and always enjoy the ride.
Except those really windy days.

I’m with you, really enjoy just ripping around the back roads of northeast Pa. Doing a lot of the old moto roads we did when we were still riding.

Along the Delaware or up Rt.6, a joy to hear that Pentastar V6 with its distinct purr. And….as as old Harley guy, don’t have to worry about dropping it.

I’ve owned my JL for just over a year. It is, to me, definitely a good on road vehicle. It is great as a daily driver. The manual with 3.45 gears is a bit tall on the highway, but I’ve learned to compensate with what gear I need to be in. The engine warms up quickly and heat comes on fast in the winter. The freedom panels are fun to pull off in the summer, even when doing a quick run to the store. The transmission is easy to shift no matter the temperature out. No worry about inclimate weather either, it has proved to be reliable in any season. I accept the fact that the solid axles will jostle on uneven bumps, but when off road I am reminded what this vehicle’s purpose is. I am ok that it does not compromise for what it is either.

I didn't enjoy my other JLs on road much at all. they were ok, but for traveling I always wished I had better seats etc.

However my new Diesel Rubicon is a different story. the sests still suck, but it's overall ok on trips. I am assuming its the extra torque where its not downshifting so much, and it actually drives better as far as not feeling as flighty etc. Im also still stock, so really excited to see how it is with the ATS and control arm swap done. made a big difference on others, so starting off good I expect it will be even better.

I know its no IFS SUV, but even my wife says this one is good on road.

I don't yet enjoy driving my JL nearly as much as I enjoyed my previous two JKs. The ride is great, nice and smooth, but the squirrelly, 'vehicle performs as designed' steering guts my sense of enjoyment. I drove each of the previous JKs halfway across the country, and I've actively avoided doing the same because keeping my JLUR between the whites lines on my 27 mile commute gets exhausting.

Still hopeful I can find a solution to that. When that happens, I have no doubt I'll get the Jeep onroad joy back.
Did you get longer LCAs to get your caster where it should have been from the factory?? We take regular 2k mile road trips in our JL (combined w/ some off-road side trips) and we love it on road too. Our JL can run down the hwy at 75 to 80 w/ just a finger on the wheel (as long as no crosswinds are there, lol) tracks like it's on rails.

1/2 the reason why I bought a Wrangler... top off, doors off, music blasting as I drive up the canyon road to the casino to win big at craps!

Yes, exactly this! I installed the Mopar LCA’s and my otherwise-stock JLR drives noticeably better. If your JLUR is stock, try this. If it’s on a big lift with 37” tires you’re going to have to look for other solutions.

Best $250 you’ll spend on a JL.
Even with stock lift they benefit from adjustable lower control arms. I just installed a set on my wife’s JLR tonight; takes less than an hour and no comparison in handling quality.

Our 2dr Sport w/ Rubicon suspension only needed the Mopar lift LCAs, since I don't plan to lift any further it's the best $80 I've spent lol :)

I enjoy going places in my Jeep, although I don’t find the on-road driving experience itself that engaging.

There is half a dozen other vehicles I rather be driving on a twisty mountain road, including my Fiat Spider.

While I love the JL capabilities off road I have to admit I also quite love driving it on road. Plenty of times I have simply just popped the freedom tops and went to find a nice route and enjoyed the fresh air and the journey on road.

That said I live in New Jersey and I am at least 1-2 hours from anywhere that I could even go offroad. I still want to find some fun trails eventually but really have no desire to smash up my Jeep on rocks. Some light trails/snow/mud/sand I'm down for all that stuff.

I did post in the north New Jersey section hoping I may find some like-minded folks that may enjoy a meet up/ride and find some cool roads but came up empty. So again just curious am I nuts or are there others that also enjoy driving their Jeep on road as well?
Is north Jersey Bergen ? I’m near Northvale and have never seen as many Jeeps in my life.

I like driving my JLUR anywhere, anytime. The worse the weather, the more fun.

Have a JL as my daily driver, but typically only go local. Had wondered how I'd like it on a trip. Recently traveled to Vermont for work, by air. At the rental desk, they advised me I was eligible for an upgrade, due to my very frequent work travel rentals. They offered a JLU, which I said he'll yes! The original plan was for me to be there a week, but got cut way short. Instead of booking a flight home, which would have taken all day, with layovers, I opted to drive the 11 hours back to Pittsburgh. My question was answered. Hell yes I'd do a road trip in my JL. Sadly was too cold to open up the top.

Exactly. I had a Corvette and a GTR and I realized wherever I felt like taking a pleasure cruise many times I'd opt to grab the keys to my wife's 2018 JL and just pop the freedom panels.

Now that I have my XR 392 it really reminds me of a mix of my GTR/VETTE/2012 AEV JK. I love it.

Just wish I had more friends into "car/truck/jeep hobby" that liked meeting up to take a cruise and grab lunch or something. I like the rides by myself but would be nice to share the hobby.

So where in NJ are you ? Maybe we can meet for lunch one day ? I'm in NJ also but like you 1-2 hours from the trails.
