I am picking up my Xtreme Recon from Gupton on Thursday and want to trailer it back home. Does anyone have the actual width of the Jeep Xtreme Recon (outside of tire to outside of tire)? I want to make sure it will fit on a u-haul car trailer. Thanks for the information.

A 6’ wide flat trailer? That’s a no go. Tow dolly is a definite no as well.

A 6’ wide flat trailer?
The trailer is 79.25" (6' 7") wide. The only specs I can find on the JLUR is 73.8" wide but it is the same width no matter which JL option I pick (sport, sahara, rubicon, etc.) I have to believe the Xtreme Recon is going to be wider than a regular JL from outside of tire to outside of tire.

Man, at that size, it will just barely fit on. No clearance at all.

Why not just drive it home?
I don't want to spend the first 300 miles driving 50 to 55 mph down the interstate. So I figured I would trailer it home and then break it in according to the owners manual.

Where does it say you have to drive 50-55 mph for the first 300 miles?

Drive moderately during the first 300 miles. After the initial 60 miles, speeds up to 50 or 55 mph are desirable. While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided.

Did you just intentionally answer your own question? It says it right there. “Up to” aka should not exceed. Cruising on the highway is not a good break in.

My wife's Sport fit on a uhaul just fine, plenty of clearance. If the XR is over the 6'7" of width on the uhaul you can still make it work. The fender on the drivers side drops down completely so if you have to ride the rail on the drivers side it's fine to do so.

Are you sure that's what it means? Weird that it doesn't account for gearing, right? Engines spin faster at 55 mph with 4.56s than with 3.45s. Weird that the manual doesn't account for that, since these are apparently Strict Engineering Guidelines.

Or maybe it just means "freeway speeds are a good idea after 60 miles; don't granny your new Jeep around town for 300 miles."

These recommendations have been the exact same forever, despite lots of changes in speed limits, engines, transmissions, and gearing.

I spent years writing technical manuals. The language is not a good choice but the intent is clear, “drive moderately for the first 300 miles.” Don’t baby it but don’t go off roading either. For the first 60 miles, baby it. 60-300, try not to exceed 55.

The numbers don’t change with gearing because it’s close enough, and nobody follows it anyway.

Rubicon axles are 3 inches wider, plus the width of tires and wheel offset. They are considerably wider.

With all due respect, if its "close enough" between 3.45s versus 4.56s, then it's "close enough" between 55 mph versus 65 mph.

This is just Jeep's standard language. It's in literally every Jeep manual. Here's the JK manual from 2009:

A long break in period is not required for the engine in your vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300 miles. After the initial 60 miles, speeds up to 50 or 55 mph are desirable. While cruising, brief full-throttle contributes to a good break in. Wide open throttle acceration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided.

I agree.
