I like Chevron, but they aren't near me, either. A few years back, all the automakers were using Chevron gas with Techron for their emissions testing. I'm not sure if they still are, or not.Sams Club also. Costco is now top tier. Thinking about switching my membership just for the gas. Philips 66 is dominant in my area. Unfortunately no Chevron stations near me.
Would that be nation wide or certain areas? They do. They are now Top Tier.
It looks like it is nation wide. They are the providers of fuel to Nascar and Indycar, along with all kinds of other racing, so I think they are trying to raise their brand standing. I use their ethanol free 91 octane gas in my boat and UTV, and it is great. I even occasionally run it in my JK. If needed, I won't hesitate to fill my JL with their regular 87, now that they are Top Tier certified.Would that be nation wide or certain areas?
Thanks for the info. I have been putting in 89, but I only use the Jeep on weekends so I don't mind spending a little more.It looks like it is nation wide. Sunoco is a NASCAR and IRL sponsor. IOW, Sunoco pays to play. The NASCAR fuel is 15% ethanol. Indy (IRL) cars run on 98% ethanol. NHRA top fuel dragsters burn 90% nitromethane. They are the providers of fuel to Nascar and Indycar
How many miles on it?I've been getting a rattle in mine but cant tell if its engine knock or not. Been running 87 octane top tier. Not the best recording but it can be heard on this audio file.
Give it an Italian tune up and see if that helps. That might blow any carbon build up out of it. It only takes a very slight amount to contribute to pinging, if that's what is happening. I run mine pretty hard (I just can't help myself) and I'm not hearing any pinging or knock. If that fails, then I'd run a tank of Shell V-Power through it, too. Again, if it is indeed pinging, you won't know if the VPower did the trick until a couple fill ups later. The 93 octane alone will likely stop it. Once you've done these things, after a couple fill ups, re-assess. It is worth a try.Around 5600
By all means, if you think it is something more than just slight pinging, then take it to your dealer and have them look at it. The octane you have there is due to the higher altitude. 91 up there will behave like 93 here at 800 feet above sea level.Thanks. Do I need to worry about any engine damage? I can try to run higher than 87 octane but I've never come across 93. In Colorado our low mid and high is 85, 87, and 91.
I am also having similar issues with my 2018 jeep wrangler jl I have a knocking noise coming from the engine area hear it on top but more from the bottom almost sounds like a bad pully. I got a little closer and you could definitely hear a continuous rapid knocking and noticed one of the lower pully seems wobbly.Hi Hau82,
We are terribly sorry to hear that you have this concern with your new JL. Have you brought this to the attention of your dealer? Please send us a PM with your VIN and mileage if you are in need of additional assistance.
