From a user at WranglerForum.com:

"I don’t follow too much JL news, however I thought I’d share that I spotted a JL hybrid near the FCA campus this morning. Much to my surprise the charging port is in the driver side fender flare! Sorry, no pics at the risk of being taken out by a semi. The charging port cover was off and hanging by a tether so I could clearly see the charging port."

I'm trying to figure out in my head how that would even work... aren't the fender flares supposed to essentially be breakaway because they're just held on by a few clips?

If it’s true I’m sure we’ll hear more in no time.

Or it could simply be a tempory solution of where to place the plug on the test mule.

Heh, They've been talking about making one since 2009. The Bankruptcy put that on hold for a while.

WITH EXCITEMENT?! I can’t wait either. Driving around in a 12 year old highlander. Can’t wait for this to come out already. They better do a good job.

Actually the EV shown in the photo was all electric. In other words, no gas engine, but battery only. Eventually the batteries will improve, we'll charge them off the solor panels on building roofs, and we'll all be driving an EV. Life will be good unless you change engine oil for a living.. Meanwhile plug-in hybrid is a good option as it lets you do local driving and shorter commutes on all electric, but still lets you use gasoline for long trips.

They were also developing several range extended EVs (Wrangler included) with a small gas motor just like the Volt. That's the main one I remember but still, they're way behind where they initially wanted to be with their plan of having every model be at least a mild hybrid.
