I always assumed that you had to be going pretty fast to get a vehicle airborne but maybe not - scary stuff...

Nah, with a ramp (such as the ditch) you can vault over a driveway at 20 MPH.
There are variables such as ramp angle, and landing height (level, vs elevated/depressed), but in general, to become airborne takes shockingly little effort.

I didn't even see the guy come flying out, I was too busy watching that cheap spare tire carrier fail. Did anyone else notice that the emergency flashers came on by themselves at the end?
After a crash with airbag deployment, the flashers turn on and the doors are unlocked.

i don't think he came completely out.... you know how the news people are glorifying everything. you can see his arms waving out of the top and looks as though some of him came out? not ejected

Bet this was the culprit. Jeep recommends replacing fluid and filter before every flight.

There was a train crossing in the neighborhood where I grew up that was elevated. They try to build tracks as elevated as they can throughout towns, for snow reasons I think. One crossing probably climbed 10 feet fast and if you went too fast you would go airborne and come down hard. Even 15 MPH your front end would go up a few feet. Very dangerous for non-residents who were not ready. No signage other than train crossing sign.
