Would a heavy bike rack cause me to exceed the tongue weight?

I have a 2 Door Sport S in Mojito Green (I love my Jeep!)

The manual says the maximum tongue weight is 91 kilo.
If I were to install a bicycle rack and carry heavy bikes, am I right in saying that the total weight should not exceed 91 kilos?
Or else, is there a maximum weight that I can carry on the tow bar?

Tongue weight is in the owner's manual for a reason.

Indeed, you should try not to exceed the maximum tongue weight.

Sure there are people that do... they will say they do it all the time and they never have issues. This does not make it right...

About a bike rack... You read the specs on the bike rack. You take the weight of the rack itself and then you add the weight of the bike(s) and say to yourself, GREAT, my set-up (bikes plus rack) weigh in at 91 kilo or a little less, so I am good to go.. I am not exceeding the recommended tongue weight...

This thought process is flawed... You need to consider the Lever issue.

The longer the tongue is on the bike rack... and the farther away the rack and bike is away from the vehicle, well.............................

that weight that you have, the total weight you figured for the bike and racks is now say 120+ kilos and not the 90 kilos you calculated, thanks to the lever affect.

This LEVER thing, needs to be considered..

Anyway, hope you get the gist of what I am trying to explain....
