Dumb question for a Sport. I’m swapping to a FAD-less front axle with 4.88 gears. As long as the transfer case is in 2 hi, does it matter if the rear isn’t matched right away? I’m fairly sure it doesn’t matter, but I’m not sure if I’ll get the regear in the rear done right away.
Ideally I’ll regear the rear first then swap the axle, but it might show up early. I don’t have a day off for another 2-4 weeks, but space in the garage is at a premium so I’d swap the front at night if it arrives to get the pony car back in there out of the rain.

You can run in 2HI with different ratios and it won't damage anything.

If it were me, I would run without the front driveshaft installed until the rear matches the front. That way there's no chance of damaging anything accidentally.

Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.

How difficult is it to regear?
I understand why it’s a job a lot of people farm out to a shop, we just don’t have good ones here. The ones that are can charge $2k labor per axle now and are booked out 3-6 months.
