I have a JLUR with 2600miles on it. The other day, coming back from work (30min highway and local) the engine light came on, 2mins later at a red light "shift to P" message shows. I shift to P and try to shift back to D, it wont go in to any gear anymore. I end up tow the truck to the dealer. The dealer's diagnose is "cause I have bigger wheels and tire(295/65/18 with 18x9 beast wheel) and didn't calibrate. Anyone have similar experience or heard of not calibrate the bigger tires would cause this?

BTW, after waited 2hrs for the tow truck to show up, I was able to shifted to drive again with the engine light still on. But I didn't take the risk and let the roadside assistant towed to the dealer anyway.

I am currently running 315ā€™s on a Sahara with a RC budget boost and currently donā€™t have my programmer installed ( pulled it for service next week ) I donā€™t have any issues and the speedo is not currently, calibrated for the larger tires, I call BS on the bigger tire thing with no recal of speedo.

@skyline9394 did you ever have this happen again? The exact same thing happened to us last night (down to the 2 hour wait and it finally going into gear). It's at the dealer waiting to be seen. Been searching the forums for others with this issue.

edit to add: full stock rubicon.

The dealer recalibrated the tires, been driving it for almost 2weeks daily. So far is good. Did your engine light turn on before it happen?

These tires are damn near the same size as stock and I wouldn't bother paying them to re calibrate for this small of a difference so I don't think I'd be buying that dealer excuse.

Engine light turned on when it happened and stayed on. It was still on when the tow truck driver loaded it on the flatbed. When it finally did move, it was very jerky. Dealership can't even look at it for 3-4 days.

Finally got our Jeep back today. They said it was a computer software problem. They rebooted and updated the software and it is running fine now.

I have a new 2019 Sahara WITHOUT upgraded tires. This happened to me, as well. I was stopped at red light, felt a lurch, the car directed me to shift to P and then back in drive, and then the engine light came on and the car wouldn't move. It has been back at the dealer for the past week and they told me it was just a "glitch" with the system, but they want to hold it for a while because the error codes are indicating an issue with the transmission. This is my first Jeep, and so far it has been a nightmare.

There hasn't been any posts on this in a while so I HOPE this is not an ongoing problem, but we had the same issue a couple of days ago...

While driving in normal city/highway conditions on a sunny day with the top down, the "Check Engine" light came and I felt something but not sure what when merging on a 4 lane highway. Soon after, "Shift to P" came up on the display, the transmission was no longer engaged and the engine just revved as if it was in neutral. Pulled over and we were officially stranded on the highway. Tried stopping and starting but every time I put it an any gear: R, D or M, the gear selection on the display would flash and "Shift to P" was on the display. Made the call for a tow and help arrived in about an hour. That was on Monday. Got a call from the dealer yesterday to say: "it is not electrical, we are going to have to open it up and get back to you tomorrow and get back to you with what we find and how long you might need a car"

And so it begins. 2018 JL Sahara (no modifications and factory wheels) with 14,000 miles. Had it for about a year and have had no problems until now. First Jeep and could be the last which would crush my wife and kids who love it. The only other time was stranded was back in 1995 when the water pump went on my 1984 Bronco II with well over 100K miles. Thankfully, I was within a 10 mile radius of home and not many miles away which is when I fear this might happen again due to my loss of confidence in this vehicle.

I am very curious to know if anyone else has has this experience other than skyline9394, questertx or cdierks215 and if it happened to any one of them again.

I have an update already...

Dealer called to tell me the Jeep needs a Valve Body replacement. Better yet, the part is on the dreaded BACK ORDER. Thankfully the dealership was honest when I asked about an ETA: "Could be a week. Could be a month. Don't know for sure"

They are providing a loaner that I half expect to be a Dodge Journey. Dear Lord. It is the middle of the summer and i fear we will be without our Jeep for the next month. This is painful already.

If anyone is wondering, it is a Automatic Transmission.

This just happened to my 2020 JL Rubicon 3.6 automatic.

One day service transmission message came on at 4500km(2800 miles) so I stopped, grabbed a coffee and started it again and the msg was gone. I was going to check the transmission fluid but you can't. So I chalked it up to a one off sensor glitch.

Next day check engine light came on and it would not let me put it into reverse or drive just kept saying put it back into park then into gear. Finally got it to go into gear and right to the dealer. Turns out the "transmission valve body" had failed according to the dealer.

Hello LkSup,
We are sorry to hear about your recent concern, however, we are happy to hear your are working alongside your dealer. Unfortunately, due to the nature of our team we are unable to assist customers outside of the US. I had the same problem last night.. Mine is 2019 JLU Rubi. The jeep wouldn't go into gear (D or R). it kept telling me to shift to P then to the desired gear.
I had to tow the Jeep to the dealer. Still waiting to hear back from the Dealer.

Check this and see if it works if its stuck in Park. Possibly a glitch where the puter thinks your door is not closed. Then you stop put it in park and you're screwed. Good thing to know this.
