Not even reading this thread. Not sure why people think a sport can't go off road.

Plan A: Wait 6 months to a year, buy jlur takeoff d44 axles (saw a pair sell for $3500 2 months ago) That would offer 4.10 gearing, e lockers, stronget axles, brakes, joints. Install would prob be $1500. $5k all in cost

Thoughts?
Sounds like a solid plan to me. :handsinair:

I think you will enjoy the journey much more as well. Building your rig is half the fun. :like:

At lease his current plan will give him more time to discover just how capable his rig is already.

Who said a sport cant go offroad? I've taken mine offroad 7 or 8 times and I'm not referring to driving on a fire road to a camp site. Have you attempted any climbing on rocky/rutted terrain in your sport and watched other jeeps who have lockers? There are alot of good mtn trails nearby and a healthy offroad community and I've been denied on several trails where others with the same 33" ko2's and lockers easily walked up the same line. I was blown away by how much they help...game changer for sure. I assume that the vast majority of jeep owners probably dont even need lockers for typical offroad driving.

New budget friendly plan- keep the sport and motivate wife to learn to drive stick and:

Plan A: Wait 6 months to a year, buy jlur takeoff d44 axles (saw a pair sell for $3500 2 months ago) That would offer 4.10 gearing, e lockers, stronget axles, brakes, joints. Install would prob be $1500. $5k all in cost

Plan B: Regear to dana spicer 4.56($500 parts + $600 labor) and add the new Torque Masters Industries front m186 torque locker(lunchbox locker supposedly good for daily drivers)to front m186 axle.($350 parts) Total cost to regear and add front lunchbox locker = $1500

And later add ARB air locker to rear m200 axle($900 ARB kit + onboard air($200) + install($400)= approx $1500

Thoughts?
I think you are making the right move by waiting. It gives you time to decide what you want to do. It doesn't pay to make impulsive decisions.

Here is a good example of a moderate climb similiar to what I've unsuccessfully attempted. Would adding a front axle lunchbox locker get me up similiar trails like this in a controlled fashion if I air down to 18 psi?
I'm no fan of the lunchbox lockers and I would want the rear locker first. Just my opinion from what I've run into the rear locker is more useful leaving the front to steer.

If you have the limited slip, I don't see you having that issue. If you haven't already, go back and try again after airing down. I like 15psi, but 18 is safe and you will notice a huge improvement in grip.

No denying the lockers are game changers, but first give the other tricks a try while you wait for those Rubicon axles to show up.

Don't forget to have some way to air back up on the trail. I prefer a CO2 tank but maybe it gets you an in to buy the ARB on board air?

I was going to ask for on board air for Christmas. Any recommendations on best place to locate it and best compressor on a budget? I'd like to have it mounted under the hood if possible.
Adding a rear locker is expensive($1500+ installed) considering ARB is the only current option with m200 rear axle. Have you seen the video below on the new front locker? They've greatly improved it where it doesnt make loud noises disengaging and have improved the turning ability in 4wd.

The biggest question that determines build path...are the jl d30 and d35 axles a strong enough platform to support 35" ko2's or ridge grapplers for once a month moderate offroad use? If they will work, then that saves significant money by not having to upgrade axles.

Even a net/net deal is profitable. Some dealers also float money from the sale from what i understand? I know some dealers will punch warranties as sold cars even though they are not actually sold if they need to meet a quota.

Dealers also make a lot of money in the back end. In the business office and in service. Commissions from loans, insurance companies, warranties, extra services, magic wax, rustproofing, accessories, add-ons, etc. Then there is the service after the sale in the service department. $50 in-cabin air filters, fuel injection cleaning, tire rotations, and other services have huge margins even though they can offer a $29 oil change. That cheap oil change is like a free buffet at a casino. They just want to get you in the door. lol.
Today I ordered takeoff JLUR axles/lockers/4.10 gearing with brakes! They had 3000 miles on them and hadnt been offroad. It was $3600 delivered to me and a friend is installing for $500. I found a used auto parts place that offered $1500 for my d30/35 axles. Should be doing the swap on Sunday! Thinking of adding a 2.5 RC spacer lift to the rubi suspension to run 315/70/17 tires. Rather not spend money for a full suspension lift just yet and mainly want a little more height to add clearance for rocks. Is there cost effective underbody protection you recommend to protect critical components?
