I know this is an old thread but I'm about to put some rigid industries D Series Pro Midnight pod lights on my JL.. I have the factory aux switches.. the guage wire of the lights is 18 guage.. from what I have been able to find on line the switch harness on the JL is 14 guage.. can someone confirm? And if so, which Butt connector should I use? Since 14 guage and 18 guage are not within the same butt connector gauge ranges.. one is from 18 to 22 and the other is I think 12-16 or something like that.. ive never wired lights before so I'm hoping for some insight..

You'll want what are called "step down butt splices" like these:

Seachoice Step Down 3-to-1 Heat Shrink Butt Connector, Marine Grade Heat-Shrinkable Butt Splices, Blue, Pack of 10, 22-18 to 16-14 Wire Range https://a.co/d/4tAhxab

The red stripe side is the 22-18 side.

Might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else.

Don't melt the wire insulation when you shrink them. (Edit: melt the glue inside the splice, but not the wire insulation)

Awesome.. thank you very much.. do you know if the jl aux switch harness is indeed 14 guage? I know most wire is marked but I haven't undone the bundle yet to see if markings are visible.. dont want to undo it until im ready to do the job but want to make sure I have what I need before starting the job obviously.. thanks for the link.. that will be perfect assuming the harness is 14 guage

I don't know for sure the gauges. 15 amp rating should be 14 AWG. it's most likely GXL wire or another automotive crosslink and may not be marked with the gauges. The 40 amp rated wires should be 10 AWG.

That's what I was thinking.. but when I held the wire from my lights (marked 18 AWG) they were significantly larger than the jeeps aux harness wires under the hood.. so that confuses me
