I recently had my JL to a dealership & they had to remove old winch power cable & ground and then install new ones. I got the bill and it was $800 labor. The winch was already on and only needed wired. I have a feeling I got royally screwed.

Well... depends.
Did they add a switch in the cabin so you're only sending power to the winch while you're using it? Adding a custom switch in the cabin could rack up $800 labor. If they just wired the winch to the battery you got royally screwed. That's an easy job.

Nope. No in cabin switch. I just use the remote winch controller.

Yep...they bent you over! Maybe 20 minute job.....only because you have to zip tie wires to secure them.

Did they explain what they would be doing and how much it would cost before they did it?

^^^ this!!!

How does a dealer just go ahead and do a $800 job without first asking the customer?

Easy. Because they know they customer will say NO...! Especially when the job is pure gravy for them.

When you picked up your Jeep, did they at least say “Merry Christmas to you too” ...? ?

Do you have a copy of the invoice they provided you can share?

I'd love to know why they thought it was necessary to remove the power and grounding cables and replace them completely. You definitely got hosed OP.

See how there is a red and black post on your battery? Ya. They ran red and black wires from there (red to red, black to black) to the red and black posts on your winch in about 5 minutes.

Unless your old wires were wrapped around the transmission and they had to drop that to remove them, you got fucked.

Post the invoice. Dealers are junk but this seems like there is more to this story.

My thought is that the cables weren't accessible and they needed to remove the bumper or something. That should be on the invoice.

Good grief. Did they at least kiss you after they screwed you!? Sorry OP, but that is highway robbery. I hate seeing people get taken advantage of like that.
