I planned on adding a dead pedal. Underneath drivers side found this wire bundle. It didnt look right and I compared what another 392 at the dealer looked like. I saw no wire bundle all neat and hidden. So Iam wondering why this looks like its exposed? What is the red plug? I can clean this all up by cutting the Zip ties taping the smaller bundles together and then taping with friction tape then tucking all that up or down in the big empty space. But I wanted first to get anyones opinion before I did that. Thanks for anyone that has any idea why mine ended up like this.

Dealer installed some dog shit tracker. Unplug the red connector and toss whatever it's connected to. The black connector is the factory ODB2 port, so make sure you seat it back into its slot.

This thread serves as a good warning to anyone buying a new vehicle. immediately after purchase look under by the OBD2 port and see if the dealer wired any bullshit into it.

What’s the reason behind it?

it's a tracker. it tracks you. some company somewhere knows exactly where your vehicle is at all time. some dealerships sell them "pre-installed" to get additional $ during the sale.

a thief, which is what this is there to assist in recovery, will take *three seconds* to look under and unplug it. very effective!

I understand that! But what does the dealer gain from it? Like why would the dealer want to track you? What does tracking a vehicle purchased from them do for them?
Dealerships like to sell add-ons. Trackers are common upsells despite being almost worthless. Many times they take the cost of it off the sale, but don't uninstall them from the vehicle.

My dealership installs them automatically on every single new vehicle we get and tries to charge ~$1500 for it. It's an absolute scam

Gotcha! I was going to ask if it was an add-on! Cause I don’t see any security add-ons on my paperwork. I also don’t know if I have this on my jeep. I’ll have to look tomorrow.

Thank you sir,
So I can unplug that red conenector and that disables it? and then tape and tuck the other wires to get them out of the way?

Some dealers are selling the tracking data to 3rd parties.

The more data collected, the more valuable the data is.

Those trackers are shite in general, unless used for fleet tracking.
