The coolant will get up to temp, but the oil temp just won't get very high no matter what you do in -20/-40 F weather. The cover makes it possible.
Oh you in that cold cold.

That's like my comment about Alaska. Makes sense

I must be the weirdo in the 4xe group. I don't do any of this nonsense here in CO and just drive the piss out of my Jeep when it says FORM to hit the optimum oil temps. Works perfectly fine and scares the f$%# out of the 4Runner/Taco drivers. 🤷‍♂️

Seriously? Lift and separate, what are you guys learning in home ec these days?
Definitely more complex than “lift and seperate”

and where the hell is there a school still teaching home ec lol… I thought they killed it off when I graduated in 89’ and transitioned it to parent child development where everyone had to carry around flour sac babies all year.

I live at 7000' and the only thing different is that I carry chains (required here). Also an extra warm coat.

They REQUIRE chains there? :CWL: Someone needs to get the council out there to take a look at our state's laws (CO) and do a little more research. We're following your state's emissions testing BS, the least Socal can do is make some common sense judgement towards winter traction laws.

I've been in a few places (not Alaska) that require you to at least have chains/cables in the car with you. I've even seen cops check to make sure before you start up the pass. Studded tires don't excuse you from carrying chains, either.

I can see it for certain places, but Socal? That's wild. We've got one of the most notorious highway mountain passes in the nation because of winter and rock related shut downs and they still don't require chains if you've got proper winter tires installed.

I'm not against it either, so many idiots come up here when it snows.
I've only put on chains once in my life, they wouldn't let anyone go anywhere without them, we got 11 feet of snow in a few days.

Alaska Here. subzero (F) temps today.

No bra (or bro) for me. Umm, maybe makes some sense, but, ugly. I spose I could handle some inserts to clover the slots. Not in a hurry for that though.

Never had FORM, this isn't a scooter I drive around the block - things are far apart here.

Chains? LOL I've never had or used them in a passenger vehicle. I've used them rarely on my tractor-trailer to get unstuck in town. The roads are covered in ice all winter long (5 months). No studs or winter tires for trucks.

I run MT Baja Boss AT's which have both decent siping for ice traction and voids between blocks for clawing through snow.
